You don’t need to go and buy an expensive dress from a maternity section. Let’s be honest no one likes to spend a lot of money on an outfit they will only ever wear once. I have put together a few styling tips you can use when searching for that perfect party outfit.

Wrap it up

Wrap dresses are super flattering both during and after pregnancy. They help cinch in your waist and gently skim over your bump, creating a beautiful hourglass shape. The luxury of having a tie waist is that you can adjust the tightness of the wrap allowing your dress to grow with you. Depending on how far along you are I would advise sizing up one or even two dress sizes.

PLEATS

A lightweight pleat is an incredibly stylish way to stay chic on a night out during pregnancy. The pleats on a high waisted skirt help give the illusion of longer legs balancing out the body. A midi skirt will skim over your bump, allowing you to stay glam but ultra-comfy. Always ensure you go for an elasticated waistband and if it feels a little too roomie after you give birth, just try fastening it up with a waist belt.

Stretch Sequin

Sequin has a bad reputation for being scratchy and uncomfortable. But most brands have now embraced a new soft stretch sequin that is a party girls best friend. It still sparkles the same but is a much more breathable material. The stretch in it allows you to wear it with and without a bump. When you are out shopping, give the garment a good stretch to see how much give it has. Again, try sizing up just in case.

Shapes

Switch up your go-to silhouette; There are lots of dress shapes that will flatter a growing bump. To start with, you have the kimono dress; By wrapping across the body with a knot with a loose batwing or floaty sleeve, it is perfectly flattering not to mention comfortable.

Another great shape you can play with is a shift dress. A shift dress already comes with added room so sizing up will give you and bump just enough room. A peplum is another fantastic style that is super flattering on a bump.
