As Jo Dunbar discusses in her article ‘Mother’s Day | Let’s get realistic‘, it isn’t fancy PJs and expensive gifts that mums want, it’s quality time.
In this feature, we’ve done the hard work for you; from pampering to chocolate making, we have put together some of the best things to do in the region on the 22nd March to have a lovely day with your Mum. And if this is a hard day for someone you know? Well, what a great excuse to treat them.

To pamper
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than a little pamper? The beautiful By Jessica Salon in Durham is the perfect place to celebrate with its modern, feminine décor: think lots of pink, gold and flowers – there’s even a pink hot chocolate and marshmallows on arrival. The lovely girls at By Jessica are offering a wonderful package to pamper our Mums and show them we appreciate them. You will begin your treatment with a cold glass of prosecco before you both receive a half-body hot stone massage and mini head massage. You’ll then celebrate with a glow, with a luxury bespoke facial tailored to all your skin needs including cleansing, toning, exfoliation, steam, mask application and shoulder, hand and arm massage. Aaaand relax…

To be healthy

Their healthy treats are always a delight, but this Mother’s Day Flamingo Café are offering an alternative to the typical Afternoon Tea with a clean-eating twist. The Flamingo special Afternoon Tea includes a selection of miniature tasty-but-healthy sandwiches such as avocado, feta and chilli, a selection of vegan cakes, home-made hummus with veg crudités and a mini granola pot with blueberries, pomegranate, pistachio and honey. Food is served with a choice of breakfast or herbal tea, or you can add Prosecco to give your healthy treat a little fizz. Enjoy a treat filled afternoon guilt free at the lovely Flamingo Café.

To relax and unwind
Embrace well-being and wellness this Mother’s Day at Rudding Park Spa in Harrogate. Less than a one-hour drive from the south of the region, Rudding Park Spa is for all occasions. A spa day here is a luxurious way to thank your Mum for everything she has done for you this year. Rudding Park is a truly spectacular spa, featuring a beautiful rooftop spa garden with a hydrotherapy infinity pool, panoramic sauna, herbal bath steam room, sunlight therapy room and a spa bath and garden. The Mother’s Day Spa Package includes 25 minutes in their traditional Moorish mud Rasul, and two hours Spa access – including access to the roof top and a two-course lunch at the Horto Café, which you can enjoy in the comfort of your fluffy white robe. Relax, unwind and spend the day chilling and chatting with your Mum in the peaceful tranquillity of Rudding Park.
