The Best Places to Eat Vegan

Whether you’re a die-hard vegan through and through or just fancy doing your bit and giving a vegan meal a whirl, the North East has some fantastic vegan restaurants to try. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for somewhere to dine out or order a delivery, to spend a Saturday night or something grab on your way to work, we’ve got you covered.

Vegano – Newcastle

33a Blandford Square, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4HZ

@vegano_veganfastfood

vegano.uk.com

Serving everything from classic mains like lasagne, to their ever-popular street food classics (think meatball subs, cheeseburgers and chilli dogs) you won’t be disappointed by the choice.

Everything served here is completely vegan, and you can have everything from small bites to desert. Available for dining in, or collection-only takeaways if you fancy a treat at home, and we can’t forget the fact they’re currently running a fundraiser to find homes for the animals they rescue. Consider this a home run on the animal-lovers field.

Scott and Wilson – North Shields

1 Trevor Terrace, North Shields NE30 2DG

@scottandwilsonbar

Facebook Page

Offering both vegan and non-vegan variations of all the classics you could want for a good meal out like burgers, nachos and pizzas, this is the perfect spot for everyone. With a laid-back vibe and plenty of delicious cocktails and drinks available, this is definitely going to be our new weekend spot.

Did we mention they have happy hour 5-7pm, AND 9pm-close every day? Yep, even on weekends! Now which way’s the bar…

Karma Kitchen – Newcastle

6 Bigg Market, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1UW

@karmakitchencafe

karma-kitchen-cafe.co.uk

It can be tricky to find vegan Indian food as it’s often traditionally cooked in ghee and includes other dairy products. Thankfully for the people of Newcastle, Karma Kitchen has stepped up to the plate. Offering completely vegan Indian dishes that are available to either eat in or for delivery, consider your Friday night takeaway changed forever.

Ran by a vegan Indian family, they’ve managed to satisfy all your plant-based needs without compromising on the traditional flavours.

Square Roots – Tynemouth

No.7, The Sidings, Tynemouth, North Shields NE30 2TF

@square.roots

facebook.com/squareroots15

Serving their take-out food from their deli in Tynemouth station, this is the perfect quick stop after a day at the beach or on your way to or from work.

Whether you’re a savoury person or can’t resist a sweet treat, they’ve got everything from quiche, wraps and paninis to cakes, brownies and pastries to satisfy even the most niche craving.
