One of the best things about the seasons changing is getting to switch up our wardrobes in favour of something a little more cold-weather appropriate. When it comes to choosing what to wear this season, we usually look to some of our favourite stylists, influencers and brands for inspo, but sometimes their most recommended items can come with a hefty price tag. We’ve done the leg work for you to find the best purse-friendly dupes of some of this Autumn/Winter’s must have items so you can be on trend without emptying your bank account.
Knee High Boots
This Autumn’s footwear of choice is the chunky boot. Instagram has been awash with influencers rocking the Ganni rubber knee-high boots with everything from leather trousers to floaty dresses, so it’s no wonder it’s been sold out constantly since they went online. However, with a price tag of £215 it’s definitely a splurge, which is where Zara’s version steps up to the plate. £100 cheaper and made of real leather means these will last you for season to come – a very worthwhile investment.
Ganni Recycled Rubber Country Boot – £215.00
Zara Flat Leather Boots With Track Soles – £119.00
The classic Chelsea boot has had a chunky makeover this season, with Bottega Veneta’s version setting the trend for the colder months ahead. Perfect for adding some edge to a floral mini dress and tights, or try pairing with wide-leg jeans and a sweater vest for a relaxed off duty vibe. Bottega Veneta’s pair has been consistently sold out, but the £720 retail price pushes it firmly into the “treat yourself” category. Luckily, ASOS has done a near-identical pair for a much more reasonable £35.
Bottega Veneta Leather ankle boots – £720.00
ASOS DESIGN Alana chunky chelsea boots in black- £35.00
Loafers are a timeless classic that can add some classic androgyny to any outfit, so it was only a matter of time before they got the chunky platform makeover for 2020. These are truly the workhorse of your shoes, because you can wear them with any fit of jeans, miniskirts, midi dresses, leather trousers, and anything in between. Gucci rolled out their platform version of these early in the season, so it was only natural that high street brands followed suit. At £670, the Gucci pair would definitely be an investment, but ASOS’s ‘Monster’ loafers for only £30 are the perfect dupe, and they’re comfortable enough to wear all day long too.
GUCCI Horsebit-Detailed Metallic Embroidered Leather Platform Loafers – £670.00
ASOS DESIGN Monster Chunky Loafers in Black – £30.00
One of the easiest ways to elevate your A/W looks is to mix up textures and fabrics. Instead of the traditional wool overcoat, try switching it up with a vinyl version instead. Keep the rest of your outfit casual with denim and knitwear, or with an ultra-feminine tiered dress to offset the retro vinyl statement. Self-Portrait is known for their luxury trend pieces, and their version of the vinyl trench complete with fur collar has a great vintage shape to it, however, £500 is a lot to pay for a piece that’s very trend focussed. If you want to dip your toe into a vinyl moment without committing to the expense, this Missguided version is a much more reasonable £60.
SELF-PORTRAIT Faux Patent Leather Trench Coat – £500.00
Missguided Black Vinyl Maxi Trench Coat – £60.00
A blazer is a must have for any wardrobe year-round. Over Summer it’s perfect over dresses and skinny jeans, and in Winter layer it over a hooded sweatshirt or long sleeved maxi dress for a great transitional piece. It might seem unnatural to opt for a bold colour for A/W, but a pop of colour over an otherwise neutral outfit can make you stand out even more. This Balmain fuchsia pink blazer is impeccably tailored and can be worn everywhere from the office to the bar, but it does come with an eye-watering price tag of £1,625. Don’t despair though – you don’t need to give up your power-suit fantasies just yet, as River Island has created a perfect dupe for a much easier to digest £68. Sizing up a couple of sizes always makes tailored pieces look even more high end, and it gives you room to layer for the colder months ahead.
BALMAIN Fuchsia Double-Breasted Wool Blazer – £1,625.00
River Island Pink Double Breasted Blazer – £68.00
Leather trousers are the staple of any good Autumn/Winter wardrobe, and they can be worn in so many ways that they’re a worthwhile investment. Style them up for the office with some loafers and an oversized white shirt, or for a more casual weekend vibe they’re great teamed with some boots and a fluffy cardigan. If you’re heading out for drinks, heels and a statement top are always a perfect go-to with some high waisted leather trousers for a chic date night look. As they can go with everything, there’s no harm in investing in a pricey pair if you know you’ll get the wear out of them. These Stella McCartney faux leather trousers are a classic cut and shape making them a timeless investment, but if you’re not ready to shell out £565 (we don’t blame you) then H&M has created the perfect dupes at a mere £19.99 without compromising on the high-end silhouette.
Stella McCartney Eco Leather Cropped Trousers – £565.00
H&M Imitation Leather Trousers – £19.99
High Neck Jumper
You can’t survive the colder months without a good knitwear collection, and opting for a cream or off white colour is guaranteed to make your outfit look far more luxe than bright white. It can be worn to brighten up an otherwise all black outfit or go for a full tonal look with different shades of white and beige for a real luxury statement. This Free People cashmere jumper is the perfect slouchy fit and can be thrown on with any outfit. At £140 it might not break the bank but it’s definitely a little bit of a splurge, so luckily H&M have done their very own version, complete with high neck and drop shoulders for that perfect relaxed fit.
