Book these Christmas events now before they sell out
This year has done its worst to dampen our spirits at every turn – but we will not let a little thing like a global pandemic stop us having some festive fun with the kids this year.
This year has done its worst to dampen our spirits at every turn – but we will not let a little thing like a global pandemic stop us having some festive fun with the kids this year.
While we won’t be able to celebrate with gay abandon, there are still loads of events and experiences to enjoy despite distancing requirements. Santa’s welcoming children at events all over the North East, many of which are, predictably, already sold out. So we thought we’d look for some slightly alternative Christmas events around the region to add a little festive cheer to your calendar.

New for 2020, this after-dark experience leads visitors around lantern-lit pathways of twinkling lights to experience the splendour of the 18th century Georgian gardens in a very different and festive atmosphere.
Tickets are limited and start from £10 per child and are available from 11-30 December.

A socially distanced pantomime
While so many pantomimes around the region have been forced to cancel, the show will go on at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle. Jack and the Beanstalk is a 75-minute rib-tickler of a show, with no interval and socially distanced seating.

Christmas at the Bowes Museum
The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle is quintessentially Christmassy – don’t you think? And 2020 does not disappoint at the stunning venue, with a range of festive occasions to enjoy. From the annual Christmas market to Santa’s enchanted Wonderland Grotto, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and enter the Christmas spirit.

Meet Father Christmas at Bamburgh Castle
