Blue Houndstooth Cardigan (£44.00) and Cami £26.00– River Island

For those that don’t know, the third Monday of the year is known to be the most depressing day of the year, gaining a title of ‘Blue Monday’. Unfortunately, this bleak day comes long after the twinkly Christmas lights have been taken down, and at a time where the summer sun seems so far away…

However, in an ode to try and banish away the blues and brighten up this year’s Blue Monday, on the 18th January, I’ve pulled together our favourite fashion picks – in blue, of course. After all, there’s that age-old saying, “if you can’t beat [it], join [it]” right?

First up, we have this gorgeous houndstooth two-piece set from none other than River Island (I know, we’re surprised, too!). Not only is this giving us Princess Diana vibes, but it also appears to be an ode to the classic Coco Channel designs seen the catwalk over 50 years ago. In fact, this year it’s been a staggering 50 years since she sadly passed away, so purchasing this outfit could be a way of celebrating the great fashion guru if you can’t afford to fork out for the real version.

Blue Vinyl Coat – Glamorous – £78.00

Sometimes in life, you stumble across something that makes you heart sing, and you find yourself buying it without a second to reconsider. And that is exactly what happened after I discovered this delicious-looking coat a few moments ago.

Ladies, if you’re looking to brighten up your Blue Monday, and aren’t afraid of making a statement, then this vinyl number may just be the one. Not only is it chic but it’s an easy piece that can refresh your wardrobe pre-SS21, with its bold and bright take on the classic trench coat. I can tell that whatever I pair it with, it will create an effortless off-duty look as I go for a walk on my lunch break.

Elastic Waist Jean – Whistles – £99.00

Could I really create a Blue Monday fashion edit and not include a classic pair of blue jeans? Of course not! After compiling extensive research across the web, I eventually settled on this straight-leg pair from Whistles. Not only do they come in the most classic of blues (amongst other colours) but they have that all-important elastic waist – making them perfect for working from home jean, or a post-pig-out in the biscuit cupboard, pair.

Animal Print Shirt – Mint Velvet – £69.00

Speaking of jeans, I also, of course, had to include a ‘nice’ top! I decided to settle for this animal print number from Mint Velvet. Not only does the zebra-meets-leopard make it on-trend but it’s made of 100% recycled chiffon, making it high-quality. As well as a ‘nice top’ contender for many, many years to come.

Oversized Wool-Blend Coat – H&M – £119.00

Here we have a handmade, high-quality coat from none other than the Scandi, H&M. From its oversized silhouette and long sleeves, you can tell its Scandi inspired – as well as a stylish design worth having for the season. Plus, with its statement-making colour, it adds an original spin to any person’s outwear collection, with a shade that can perfectly complement the more classic colours, such as grey and black, which you can witness from the stock photo.

Personalised Scarf – Azurina – £28.00

Or if you don’t fancy bagging a blue coat, why not brighten up another outwear item in your wardrobe – such as your scarf collection? Here we have a seriously soft scarf that will wrap you up warm, and all without scratching your face off. (I have one and I promise!) Plus, the thing I like the most about this scarf is that you personalise it with your initials for no extra cost. To be honest, this would even make the most perfect pick-me-up Blue Monday present for a loved one, should you want to treat them to something nice.

Blue Multi-Check Shacket – DLSB – £59.99

Whilst I’ve already created a round-up of the best shackets on the high-street, it seems that this trend is here to stay for the entire season. With that in mind, I thought I’d share my personal favourite from the North East based fashion site, DLSB. Throw it over any outfit for an afternoon walk, or you could even wear it to keep you warm whilst working from home.

Blue Chain Jumper – DLSB – £32.99

Alternatively, why not instantly upgrade your knitwear collection with this piece from DLSB? Not only does it come in the most flattering shades of blue but with its cut-out front and gold chain detailing – it can add a touch of glamour to even the most basic of outfits.

Light Blue Puffa Gilet – DLSB – £59.99

Finally, from this North-East based fashion brand, we have a baby blue longline gilet. Whilst the thought of wearing a gilet may be intimidating to most – it certainly doesn’t be. This one, in particular, is a fabulous functional layer than can be added to or peeled away at whim; perfect for those awkward in-between season times, when you’re not sure what the weather will be like as you go for yet another walk.

What makes this one extra special is the puffer fabric, as well as the front pockets and side zips – meaning its snug, stylish and super practical.

Alpaca Blend Shorts (£89.00), Sweater (£95.00) and Socks (£19.00)

Or if outwear isn’t something you require this Blue Monday, as your plans mostly consist of staying at home, then this three-piece-set from KITRI is probably more up your street. Or home (Get it?!). With this outfit, you’ll not only look cool enough for a conference calls, with your camera mid-waist up, but you’ll even look decent enough to answer the door to your delivery driver. Oh, and those slipper socks make the perfect cosy accompaniment for a night of Netflix.

Statement Collar Cardigan – &Other Stories – £95.00

Once the unchallenged uniforms of grandmas and librarians, I have news, guys: collared cardigans are now cool. Not only are they a style you can chuck on to work from home in but they’re perfect for a weekend stroll, or as an additional layer to grab when nipping out at night to pick up some sweets from the shop. And this Peter Pan collar version, with its 100% wool detailing, is a perfect example.

Swirl Print Top (£69.00) and Skirt (£79.00) – Never Fully Dressed

Doesn’t this deceivingly look like a dress? However, the good news is that it isn’t… meaning you can get optimum wear out of the two pieces. Available in sizes 8-24, the top has swirl-patterned sheer arms, which fall loosely – creating a feminine laidback look. As for the skirt, it has a stretch fabric – allowing comfortable room, only further complimented by the swirly print of blue hues throughout.

Bejewelled Button Waistcoat – Zara – £27.99

Who’d have thought that we’d all one day be dressing like Chandler Bing in the majority of the first few seasons of Friends? Nope, not even I – a First-Class Honours fashion graduate – could predict that. But hey, isn’t that the great thing about fashion? Sometimes, you find yourself lusting over something you wouldn’t dare to have looked at years ago.

Whilst knitted waistcoats will soon be dominating the high-street, this is my personal favourite blue version out at the moment. I’d keep it simple and wear it exactly as the model has, whilst letting the blingy diamante buttons do their thing.

Seamless sports tights (£17.99) and bra (£12.99) – H&M

Firstly, if you’ve managed to make it this far into January and are still keeping up with your fitness goals – well bloody done! Secondly, why not reward yourself for your hard work by purchasing a piece of gym-wear?

I’ve got both of these pieces, and love wearing when working out to 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene, on YouTube. With their high-waist panelling, they keep everything in place, even when I do downward dog. They also make feel really at ease and comfortable – which let’s be honest, is the number one thing workout gear should make you feel.

Wrap Tier Blazer (£35.00) and Trouser (£24.50) – 4th and Reckless

Comparatively, on the other end of the fashion spectrum to workout gear is workwear – or an everyday outfit for when you’re feeling a little bit extra! The good thing about this suit, in particular, is that it has a year-round style. With its high-wait and slim-leg silhouette trouser, and its flattering tie-waist closure – it could be an outfit for all social calendar events, or a casual occasion when worn with a classic pair of white trainers.

Longline Shacket – 4th and Reckless – £38.00

They say that fashion comes full circle, as does this shopping guide, as I share another shacket. But I seriously couldn’t resist as it has a throw on fit in the most gorgeous of muted blues. Not only can it inject a bit of colour but it’s a great transitional essential, which can be layered over knits and with some chunky boots for an effortless everyday look.
