Honour Health has been looking after the dental health and wellbeing of patients throughout the North East since 1986.

With practices in Jesmond, Ponteland and Stanley, all overseen by principal dentist Onkar Dhanoya, the practitioners at Honour Health can offer every kind of dental treatment going – including home and in-surgery teeth whitening, teeth straightening, Invisalign, dental implants, veneers, white fillings and crowns. And we haven’t even mentioned their state-of-the-art dental hygiene treatments yet, either.

Available to both NHS and private patients, Honour Health’s whole offering is centred around the health and wellbeing of their clients. Their clinics are modern, calm and relaxing spaces, with staff really taking their time to reassure nervous patients. And the quality of their work? Well, that speaks for itself.

Associate Dentist at Honour Health is Gulshan Dhanoya, who was a previous finalist for her teeth whitening work at the Aesthetic Dentistry Awards, and has been shortlisted for Best Young Dentist at the Private Dentistry Awards. (Not bad, eh?)

We caught up with Gulshan to get the lowdown on why dental health is so important to our wider wellbeing, what makes Honour Health stand out from the crowd and just how we can get that pearly-white, all-natural smile.

How important is it to properly look after our teeth?

Poor dental health directly affects our overall health and wellbeing, which is why it’s crucial to keep up a good oral hygiene routine and see your dentist regularly.

Gum disease, for example, has been linked to a range of wider health issues. It causes intense gum inflammation, which affects the bloodstream, and is believed to slowly damage blood vessels in the heart and brain. This increases the risk of having a stroke, developing diabetes, arthritis, heart disease or dementia.

The good news is that by brushing your teeth for two minutes, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste, as well as flossing daily and visiting your dentist and hygienist every six months, you’ll reduce your risk of developing health issues.

Tell us about Honour Health – how can you help our readers?

Honour Health offers NHS and private dental care and a wide range of aesthetic dental treatments, including teeth whitening, teeth straightening, composite bonding and veneers.

We’re here for you for all things dental – whether you’d simply like to see us for routine dental care, or if you’re lacking some confidence in your smile and would like to discuss options for a full smile makeover.

We have three practices in the North East: Jesmond, Ponteland and Stanley. We’re also in the process of expanding our facial aesthetics team, so watch this space!

What sets your dental practices apart from the rest?

We’ve been looking after the dental health of patients across the North East for almost 35 years now. In that time, we’ve established a local and national reputation for providing excellent standards of care. In the past three years alone, we’ve won ‘Dental Team of the Year’ and ‘Practice of the Year’ at the Dental Awards, and ‘Best Team’ at the Private Dentistry Awards.

We’re continually investing in the latest dental technology and equipment to help improve our patient care even further – including our Itero Scanner for digital smile scans, our 3D implant suite, a microscope for endodontics and our state-of-the-art Airflow system for dental hygiene treatments.

How do you strive to make Honour Health more accessible than other practices?

We offer evening and Saturday appointments to make it that bit easier for patients to visit us. We also encourage families to bring their babies to see us before their first birthday or when their first tooth comes through, to help them get used to the routine of visiting the dentist, and to develop good habits from an early age.

Tell us about your team?

We have a talented, dedicated team of dentists, dental hygienists, dental nurses and receptionists working at Honour Health, many of whom have worked here for more than a decade now. Onkar Dhanoya is our principal dentist and has almost 35 years of experience in dentistry. He’s a great leader and mentor for our team, which consists of more than 50 dental care professionals across our three practices.

Our dentists each have certain areas of dentistry that they’re particularly interested in. This wealth of experience and diverse range of interests makes us a very strong team, and we all work closely together to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Tell us about your Natural Smile approach?

At Honour Health, we focus on a minimally invasive approach to dentistry. You don’t have to undergo destructive treatment to achieve a smile you’ll love. Enamel is there for a reason, and when it is cut down – for instance, during some veneer preparations abroad – it shortens the life of the tooth. Our teeth whitening options provide safe, effective ways to whiten your smile at home or at our clinic, depending on your preference.

A smile makeover takes time and dedication to achieve a beautiful, natural result. It’s important to choose a dentist who you trust not only to have the right skills, but who cares about the health of your teeth and is conscious of preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.

I always focus on using minimally invasive techniques to achieve a natural result that suits each patient’s face shape and smile line – because no two smiles are the same!

What are you most passionate about at Honour Health?

I’m most passionate about using aesthetic dentistry to help my patients feel confident about their smiles. There’s no better feeling than handing a mirror to a patient after completing a smile makeover and seeing how thrilled they are with their teeth. It’s really rewarding to know that you’ve had a meaningful impact on their self-esteem.

I also enjoy meeting new people at Honour Health every day, and I’ve treated many patients that I now call friends. My goal is always to provide the highest standards of dental care in a happy, relaxed environment. I aim to help people enjoy the experience, and to forget any past nerves about sitting in the dental chair!
