In Partnership with Studio Aesthete

We’ve said it before and I’m sure we’ll say it again – beauty isn’t just about looking great. It’s about feeling great.

We can never underestimate the confidence boost we get when we take a little time to dress ourselves up, look after our looks and indulge in a little aesthetic self-care. We all know the saying: ‘a woman who’s just cut her hair is about to change her life.’ And the same can be said for every beauty treatment we go for.

After all, we don’t take time over our appearance so that we can spend all day looking at ourselves. We care about what we look like because it’s how the world sees us. So when we feel like we look our best, we’re projecting that positivity, self-worth and ambition out onto everyone we meet. And you know what? That feels good.

That’s why when we discovered Studio Aesthete, we knew we wanted to meet owner and lead practitioner, Lucie Royer, for ourselves. Because, perhaps quite surprisingly to some, Lucie entered into the world of aesthetics through a more unusual route – mental health nursing. And it’s no coincidence.

We caught up with Lucie to chat all things aesthetics: what treatments she offers at her Newcastle and Sunderland studios (which have just enjoyed a gorgeous new makeover), what an ‘advanced facial’ actually is and how it makes the most of natural beauty techniques, and just how indulging in a bit of aesthetic self-care can work wonders for our mental health.

What’s Studio Aesthete all about?

Studio Aesthete is a medical skincare and injectables clinic, based in Sunderland and Newcastle. It’s not just our ‘mission’ – it’s our obsession to uncover a person’s natural essence, enabling them to fall in love with their true self and feel fully empowered in their own skin!

You studied Adult/Mental Health Nursing at university – what led you to pursue a career in aesthetics?

I’ve always loved helping people and making them feel good within themselves. Nursing has allowed me to do this on a daily basis! I then realised that this desire to help and care for others would complement my keen interest in aesthetics. Working with people one-to-one and helping them achieve their aesthetic goals is so much fun! It’s so good to see people’s faces just light up when I show them the mirror.

What led you to take the leap and open up your own studio?

I just love having my own space to create, work and call my own. It’s so important to me that my clients feel relaxed and at ease when they arrive to their appointments. I feel most like myself in the studio and I hope my work reflects that!

You’re a keen traveller – how do your travels inspire your work?

I feel so inspired when I travel and experience different cultures. The more inspired I feel, the more ideas I come up with. That’s how Studio Aesthete was born!

What treatments do you offer at Studio Aesthete?

Non-surgical aesthetic procedures and medi facials, including: lip fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, micro-needling, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and high frequency.

What exactly is an advanced facial?

Facials are a lot more technical then they used to be! Advanced facials make the most of effective natural techniques, along with today’s amazing products and technology. We can provide results for common skin concerns and repair your glow with a customised nurturing experience.

What are some of your most popular treatments right now?

Hyaluronic acid dermal filler lip injections and micro-needling are definitely our most popular treatments right now. I love to perform both!

Considerations about mental health and self-esteem helped inspire you to enter into the world of aesthetics professionally. How can the treatments you provide at Studio Aesthete impact your customers’ mental health?

Everyone loves a little boost! Whether it be from looking at their skin after their facial and seeing their new, fresh, glowing skin, or the way they feel when they love the outcome of their aesthetic procedure and can’t stop smiling. We want our clients to feel good within themselves, and we just love helping them get there.

We’ve spotted on your Insta that you’ve been busy redecorating one of your studios – can you tell us a bit more about what you’ve been doing?

When I took on the new premises in Sunderland, I didn’t realise how much work needed to go into it! I love a challenge though and it’s been so much fun. Picking the prints for the walls and the décor were definitely the parts I’ve enjoyed the most, for sure! I just wanted to show my personality within the studio. Hopefully I got there!

When you have any downtime, where are you most likely to go around the North East?

I love breakfast out, with a really good (unrushed) coffee in Ouseburn or the gorgeous Tynemouth. Long walks/hikes and a little dash of wild camping around Northumberland are a must for me to really let my hair down and relax. The North East has some absolutely beautiful spots, I’m so proud to be from here.

What are you most passionate about, as a business owner?

I’m really passionate about being open, honest and transparent with my clients. I only want to treat people for the right reasons and make a positive, authentic impact in their lives. Having a business in my home town and meeting so many wonderful people in the area really makes all the hard work worthwhile for me. When you have a burning desire to start a business and it’s all you can think about, don’t wait – just do it!
