FOR ONE

Just a few steps away from Whitby’s renowned Flowergate, you and your four-legged friend can stay right in the heart of the action at Abbey Hus.

A beautiful, bright and airy apartment boasting views of the town’s iconic Abbey and furnished with Scandi style in abundance, Abbey Hus gives a real sense of calm and minimalism – which is just what you need when you’re escaping from reality for a while.

The open-plan living and kitchen area keeps things simple, clean and crisp, but it’s the bedroom that’s the real talking point here. Sink into the king master suite after a day spent exploring and let the bedroom’s pale colour palette, light-finish wood and soft tones of blush and grey soothe you into the best night’s sleep you’ve probably had in ages.

Speaking of exploring, on your doorstep you’ll find a flurry of shops, bars and restaurants, so you’ll never run out of places to visit, while the Blue Flag West Cliff Beach is just a five-minute walk away – so you and your pup can run off plenty of steam.

Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary and the renowned Whitby Abbey, (which, if you haven’t heard, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel, Dracula) and make sure you don’t miss your chance to tuck into some of the best fish and chips going at Trenchers.

FOR A COUPLE

Looking to rekindle a little romance while giving your doggos the A-List treatment too? The Green Door in Richmond is for you. This stylish cottage – right in the heart of this historic market town – has a real cosy feel, while hosting modern appliances and high-spec fixtures throughout to make sure your stay is as comfortable and effortless as possible.

Perfectly positioned for you to explore ‘the jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire’, just a stone’s throw from The Green Door is The Station – a gorgeous, Victorian railway station that has been given a new lease of life with a mixture of artisan shops, a cinema, an art gallery and a café-bar. Go ahead and sample some Herriot Award-winning food or sup on some beer brewed in-house from Richmond Brewing Company while you get your culture fix – you are on holiday, after all.

If getting away from it all is more what you’re after, then Richmond is also the perfect base for plenty of walking trails. There’s a great river walk up to Easby Abbey (an English Heritage site that’s free to visit), or another that meanders down to Richmond Falls, just down the hill from the marketplace. So you and your pups will have plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs. If the sun’s shining, we’d recommend having a cheeky picnic at The Batts, too.

However you decide to spend your days, a highlight will always be returning to your home-from-home at The Green Door – with its exposed beams and traditional cottage features bringing a real cosy feel to a spacious open-plan living and dining area.

After a long day exploring, there’s nothing better than busting out the bubbles (whether for your bath or for your glass) and sinking into the traditional freestanding bathtub here to enjoy a long soak. Just make sure your pooch doesn’t try and join you!

FOR A FAMILY

Looking for a delightful, modern, family-friendly holiday home right in the heart of the action this Summer? Look no further than Montrose View.

This gorgeous, mid-street house in Saltburn-by-the-Sea has been expertly renovated and furnished to Host & Stay’s 5* standard. With three bedrooms, an open-plan living, kitchen and dining space, on-street parking and local amenities just a short walk away, it’s the perfect place to bring the whole family together for a stress-free seaside staycation.

Bold colours and luxury furnishings combine in Montrose View, so you’ll always feel a sense of stylishness throughout your stay (we can’t always say the same about family life back at home!). The bay window floods the living area with light, which has an electric blue fabric four-seater sofa and a studded, Chelsea-style bucket sofa so there’s oodles of room for the whole family to spread out and kick back. Above the traditional cast-iron fireplace sits a large flat-screen TV, so even if the weather isn’t co-operating you can still enjoy some family time in front of the box.

Designed with a modern take on Victorian styling in mind, the statement L-shaped kitchen (which sits over two levels) has everything you could ever need to cook up a storm on your staycation and opens out into the dining area, which is perfectly shaped for entertaining. Just outside, the well-kept garden and patio area is a dream for alfresco dining and drinking. Our advice? Take your morning cuppa out and watch the sun rise over Huntcliff.

At Montrose View, you’re only a hop, skip and a jump from the centre of the Victoria Spa town of Saltburn – where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars and independent boutiques. Take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and you’ll find the 208–metre pier stretching out into the sea, or take a stroll along the long, sandy shoreline overlooked by colourful beach huts and high cliffs.
