Still suffering with dry skin in Summer? Try these 6 miracle skincare products.
By Abbey Warne
We all know that dry skin can be an absolute pain in winter, but when it hangs about even when the weather is warmer and we’re getting our Vitamin D boost, it can feel so defeating. But why does it happen?
One reason why dry skin won’t leave some of us alone in the Summer is because we’re not wearing enough SPF. That’s according to the Dermatology and Mohs Surgery Institute, which says that if you don’t protect your skin, then the sun’s UV rays can steal its moisture.
Another culprit may be air conditioning, according to SkinKraft Laboratories, which, they said, can cause further dryness by stopping your skin from retaining moisture.
We don’t have a lot of air conditioning here in the North East, though, other potential causes include Chlorinated water, which robs your skin of its pH, and sweating, where skin can dry out due to water loss.
Whatever the cause, we need a remedy, which is why we’ve tried, tested and absolutely adored six products, which we believe may help tackle our summer skin woes.
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, £9.50
It seems like social media has gone CeraVe-mad. In particular, the brand has gained a lot of positive attention on the social media platform TikTok. It has even been featured on Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire.
Given all the hype, we had to give CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleanser a try for ourselves. And we must say, we’re impressed.
The product promises to remove all the nasties from your face, such as makeup and dirt, while avoiding interference with the skin’s protective barrier. It also comes in a handy soap-like dispenser!
After only one week, we could see a noticeable difference in our skin’s natural appearance. It appeared visibly clearer, as well as feeling much smoother. As the product promises, it does a fantastic job when it comes to removing makeup, with only a few wipes and it’s off!
But the main thing we took away is that it leaves skin feeling completely fresh, hydrated and, combined with the moisturiser, has left us feeling ready for the day, with our skin hydrated and no irritation.
CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion, £13.00
Although they may do the job for some, we’ve tried a lot of drugstore moisturisers in the past that are, at times, not strong enough for really dry skin. From our experience, we’ve found that they tend to only last for a short period of time before our skin gets really thirsty again.
This meant that we were very relieved when we came across the incredibly effective CeraVe Moisturiser, which stuck to its word when it said it would keep our skin’s thirst quenched for up to a day. We felt we could leave it on for a full 24 hours without worrying about reapplying it.
It’s fair to say that it completely did the trick for us. After only a few days, it left our skin feeling impressively hydrated.
Sheet masks have seen increasing popularity in recent years and there are so many brands to choose from. After all, they are pretty good for an extra hydration boost every now and then. But which ones to choose?
They both immediately gave us a much-needed hydration boost, which was promising. Although we did notice that The Body Shop’s mask kept our skin hydrated for slightly longer.
Diya Wellness Body Oil, £18-£20
Diya wellness has a range of oils, and which one you select all depends on what you’re wanting to get out of them. There’s plenty to choose from too, including; nourishing, relaxing, strengthening, refreshing, cooling and moisturising oils.
We’re currently raving over this brand. Not only is it based here in the North East, but it also uses 100% sustainable and natural ingredients. According to their website, the products are, “scented with a delicate blend of pure, essential oils, fortified with Vitamin E and nothing else.”
What’s also right up our street is that for each oil, the brand lists key ingredients. So, the Moisturising Body Oil uses an exotic mix of Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Organic Sesame Oil, and more. Sounds good to us.
Hollywood Browzer Duo Pastel Pink & Black, £14.95
A growing trend in recent years, dermaplaning has become the go-to for many. There are lots of tools out there, but we decided to try Hollywood Browzer Duo Pastel Pink & Black after it took our fancy while browsing online.
It promises “pain-free hair removal and dermaplaning.” In a nutshell, this handy tool basically takes away body and facial hair, as well as removing dead skin.
This product certainly did it for us. After all, it’s not ideal waking up and finding dry skin flakes on your face! No thanks.
The Ordinary, Peeling Solution, £6.25
Tried the products we’ve mentioned so far and had no luck? We’re certainly surprised, but hopefully this time will be the charm.
Chemical Peels have become pretty popular in recent months, as most of us have been at home more, meaning we’ve had plenty of time to ramp up our skincare game. When we discovered the trend, we knew we had to hop on board and give the Ordinary Peeling Solution a go.
According to the experts at Dermalogica, the mask peels off the surface of your skin, with the process taking between two and three days. It’s worth the wait though, because after that, it should have that smooth, clean feel.
These experts also advise a bit of aftercare, including washing your face with water and moisturising.
