Nothing beats cold winter evenings watching Christmas films at home with a glass of warm mulled wine in your hand to help you get into the festive mood, right?

But we’ve found the interior trend that’s guaranteed to get your Christmas cosiness to the next level – Chalet Chic.

From thick, snug textures of fur and bouclé to natural, rustic elements of wood and warm colour palettes, this interior styling is being used in show homes across the country and we can’t get enough of it.

With over 30 years of experience and one of the country’s leading estate agents, Urban BASE help hundreds find their dream home across the North East. These professional and friendly property people pay extra attention to detail by working with experts in different fields, including their team of talented interior designers, Inside Contracts Design, who make their show homes as stunning as they are.

That’s why we caught up with Inside Contracts Design’s interior designer, Caragh Penney, to find out how we can get that show home chalet feel in our own home…

Tell us all about this trend?

Typically, chalets are designed with an absence of modern artificial materials but have natural stone and wood dominating throughout. The interior trend derived from this takes inspiration from the rustic elements and combination of cold stone and cosy wood, giving this trend some winter charm. Design features of this style will include cosy, open fireplaces, exposed wooden beams, warm pastel shades and unfinished, textured furniture.

What do you love about this style?

I love the unique atmosphere created from this trend; it gives a warm feeling of comfort and tranquillity. Despite certain guidelines to follow when striving for this look, there’s always scope to personalise the design – something we see more and more of in today’s interiors.

Where should we start to get this chalet show home look?

Start with coarse and chunky textures. Adding some natural wooden accessories and a sheep wool rug will help form that rustic atmosphere. You could also think about changing up your colour schemes by incorporating calm, natural shades such as brown, beige and terracotta to add warmth and depth. With the addition of some thick yarn throws and bouclé cushions, you’re well on your way to a chalet-inspired interior!

How can we make sure this trend will suit our home?

When it comes to styling your home, always remember to size up your items before purchasing – furniture dimensions can make or break how an interior comes together and makes such a difference to the overall feel of a room. Accessorise with tonal colours to suit your existing scheme or introduce some bold colours if you’re going for that statement look.

What is your interior design top tip?

You shouldn’t have anything in your home that isn’t useful or beautiful. A bit of a controversial one, but these are words to live by, especially if you’re a secret hoarder.

You style so many show homes; what’s the trick on getting a style that appeals to so many people?

Design is subjective, so naturally, there’ll always be people who would have done things a little differently. We love hearing feedback on our projects. It’s so important as it shapes how we learn and progress as designers.

When it comes to show home design, we take inspiration from all aspects of the build. This includes the initial brief, the site location, target demographic and current/future trends. We work closely with the housebuilder, ensuring that they’re involved throughout the design process and that the final product perfectly encapsulates their vision.
