When visiting a hair salon, it’s all about taking some time out for yourself and enjoying a luxurious pamper – which doesn’t happen very often, right?
Well, we reckon you’ll be tempted to book in a little more often now, because we’ve found a perfectly relaxing retreat right in the heart of the County Durham countryside, within Ramside Hall’s grounds, where you can well and truly let your hair down and enjoy some quality ‘you time’.
Whether your hair is dry and damaged from using heat products, or you’re noticing the first signs of ageing with a loss of some of your hair’s vibrancy, lustre and colour, we all have our unique struggles with our locks. That’s why Reef Salons’ friendly hairstylist team are on a mission to constantly educate themselves with the latest training, techniques and knowledge.
At Reef Salons, your time will be spent more wisely than with just a simple haircut – you’ll enjoy a full haircare experience. Rather than feeling like you’re on a conveyer belt of customers, as in some other salons, Reef is a cut above the rest and will treat you to a one-on-one consultation with a talented stylist, who’ll use their undivided attention to get to know your unique hair type and concerns before using their expertise to recommend what luxurious treatments will transform your hair.

Not forgetting how you’ll feel like a VIP as you sink into relaxing reclining massage chairs before being treated to head massage and a hot towel that helps your hair absorb all the nutrients from your treatment. All of this with a luxury hot drink in your hand from Reef’s delicious drinks menu that includes Biscoff hot chocolate, salted caramel hot chocolate plus a selection of classic teas to herbal teas – all with milk alternatives available.
From the luxury, cruelty-free and sulphate-free brand from Jennifer Lopez’s late hairstylist, Oribe, to retail and colour brand KEVIN.MURPHY (which is sustainable, vegan and uses naturally derived ingredients), Reef’s range of high-end haircare brands will work their magic, ensuring you’ll never have a bad hair day again.
Sounds like just what you need? Same. That’s why we popped down to Reef (along with Rachael’s mam, Pam) to meet the team – including salon owner Joanne’s gorgeous little dachshund, Coco – and experience this haircare heaven for ourselves…

OUR TREATMENTS
Rachael’s treatment
After years of bleaching her hair and constantly using straighteners and curlers to style it, it’s now safe to say that Rachael’s hair is damaged. That, mixed with having naturally curly hair, means that what was dry hair in the first place is now a head full of split ends, in desperate need of some hydration.
The result
After her treatments, Rachael’s hair was shining (which, she says, it never does), and the colours of her highlights were gleaming. Even now, a few weeks after her treatment, she can still feel the difference in her hair; it feels moisturised, soft and looks healthy (for a change). This is due to Oribe’s Renewal Remedy’s Treatment, a revolutionary salon treatment experience where custom-blended antidotes are designed to help restore the holistic health of hair, perfecting and protecting from root to tip. This transformed Rachael’s hair with translucent results that can last up to 6 weeks.
Senior stylist Eleanor recommended:
Molly’s treatment
Molly hadn’t had her long locks cut for almost a year before visiting Reef Salons. This left her hair looking dry and dull, without much shape around her face. After having the same hairstyle for a few years, Molly fancied a change.
The result
Look at the before and after photos – how healthy does Molly’s hair look now? Matt added some long, composite layers and cut a face-framing shape at the front. Molly’s locks are now looking strong, glossy and moisturised.

Pam’s treatment
Pam often colours her hair at home to cover her grey hairs, but all this hair dying has led to her locks losing their moisture and vibrancy. She also enjoys swimming regularly but finds that her hair dries out post-swim yet still feels oily because of the chlorine.
The result
The hydrating treatment nourished Pam’s hair, making it much softer and more manageable. Eleanor recommended that Pam uses KEVIN.MURPHY MAXI.WASH at home – a deep-cleansing shampoo to strip unwanted product residue and excess oil before shampooing again with her normal shampoo to ensure all the chlorine is washed off. She also suggested that when Pam next goes swimming, she should apply a hair mask first and wear a swimming cap during her swim, then wash the mask off afterwards to protect her hair.
