Newcastle’s best-kept secret – Mother Mercy – is the mother of all cocktail bars, after being named as one of the Top 50 Cocktail Bars in the UK.

So, we popped down ourselves to see how they’ve shaken – and stirred – things up in Newcastle City Centre, here’s what we found out…

Cocktails!

A trip to a cocktail bar wouldn’t be complete without trying their full cocktail menu, right? Name your poison and we can guarantee that you’ll find your new favourite cocktail here, with some totally new cocktails from Mother Mercy’s Originals menu, made by their in-house team.

For you vodka lovers, embrace your inner Sex and the City diva by sipping on a Cosmo. Or, if rum is more to your taste, it’s time to be like Daisy, Gatsby and co with a King Kong Old Fashioned or two, (it is the roaring ‘20s, after all). And Mother Mercy even have a cocktail for you wine connoisseurs, with their Frosé Margarita filled with frozen rosé wine, sweet lychee and great tequila – the perfect ingredients.

Win a free cocktail

If you can never decide what cocktail to order, we’ve found the perfect gizmo for you – the Twist of Fate. Take a spin and fate will find your new favourite cocktail. This is the perfect chance to try out something new that isn’t on Mother Mercy’s menu, including the Kindergarten Cup with an infusion of homemade Skittles vodka, Aperol and Wham bar syrup alongside the Silver Pineapple, a mix of white rum, fresh pineapple and white wine. Plus, when you spin the Twist of Fate, you’ll be in the chance of winning a free cocktail.

Exclusive time with the girls

This cocktail hideout takes us away from it all, while still being right in the hustle and bustle of the Toon’s nightlife. In the Cloth Market, tucked away under the Old George Inn, this beautiful basement bar lies behind a secret blue door and serves us all those exclusive, intimate and super-chilled vibes, complete with Mother Mercy’s resident DJ.

And no need to queue for your drinks – you can order your cocktails through table service which makes this a safe spot to drink without the hassle of going backwards and forwards to the bar and missing out on any important gossip from the girls.

Delicious dumplings

After sipping on all these cocktails, it’s always a good idea to line our stomachs to help ease any potential hangovers, right? It’s safe to say that Mother Mercy has definitely mastered the taste of their cocktails, but they have also got the infusion of flavours inside their delicious steamed dumplings spot on. With the option of chicken and mushroom with teriyaki sauce or mixed vegetables with sweet chilli on the menu, Mother Mercy’s dumplings are the perfect, light snack to accompany your cocktails.

Instagrammable interior

Oh, and we have to mention their Instagrammable interior. From the moment you walk through the doors, we can guarantee you’ll be blown away by this contemporary cocktail bar’s decadent décor. From stunning statement colours and modern wall art to cosy downlighting and gorgeously golden bar stools, this stylish basement bar is the ultimate backdrop to level up your Insta game.
