When planning a special celebration, we always want to book somewhere not only luxurious but also where we can create memories that’ll last a lifetime. But it’s not always as easy as it sounds, right?

After hours of scouring the internet, it can be so hard to find a classy destination for big group gatherings like stag and hen parties, alongside finding a big enough space to entertain everyone, too. There’s nothing worse than having to leave some of your nearest and dearest out of your celebrations.

But listen up, ladies: we’ve found the most sensational secret spot that has all the answers to our prayers – hosting up to 20 guests at any one time. Blackton Grange is the secluded lakeside ‘celebration destination’ in the heart of the North Pennines, between the picturesque towns of Middleton-in-Teesdale and Barnard Castle, that you need to know about.

Just an hour’s drive from Newcastle and Durham, this relaxing retreat is an elegant escape away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, where we can unwind while taking in the views of outstanding natural beauty that make up the captivating Country Durham countryside. Sounds like just what we all need right now, doesn’t it?

While Blackton Grange hasn’t quite opened its doors just yet (much to our disappointment), we don’t have long to wait before we can enjoy a sensational staycation – as this high-end holiday home will be open for bookings later this year.

Can’t wait that long? Here’s what we know about Blackton Grange so far…

WHAT WE CAN EXPECT AT BLACKTON GRANGE

Blackton Grange is a large, eight-bedroom traditional farmhouse nestled within an 11-acre private estate of outstanding natural beauty. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hot tub break away with the girls, you’re wanting a peaceful hotel break with your family to celebrate a special occasion, or you’re on the hunt to find a sophisticated spot to celebrate your hen do, Blackton Grange is Durham’s newest, exclusive, high-end holiday home that’ll be open for bookings by later this year. (We can’t wait!)

Described as a ‘luxury celebration estate’, it isn’t hard to see why Blackton Grange is set to be the newest go-to celebration destination. From a movie night in their cinema room to fun in the games room, a cheeky tipple (or two) in the cocktail lounge to a secluded soak in their spa area hot tubs (and cold tubs) and relaxing by the fire pits, Blackton Grange has everything to entertain everyone – including your four-legged friends, as dogs are most welcome at this estate.

THINGS TO DO WHILE STAYING IN COUNTY DURHAM

A breakaway should be relaxing, leaving you without a care in the world during your stay. And from private chefs to ultimate spa day experiences, kayak lessons to grazing tables and cocktail masterclasses to Pilates sessions, owners Jodi McSherry and Stella Laird have searched high and low to find the best, local businesses to make your stay even more special, so you don’t have to worry about any of the ‘extras’.

This sensational staycation spot is perfectly secluded. But, if you want to explore beyond the gorgeous 11-acres of the Blackton Grange Estate’s grounds, it’s also only a 15-minute drive to the historical market town of Barnard Castle. Here you’ll find many thriving independent retailers, restaurants, cafés and pubs that serve top quality homemade food, with local produce at the forefront of their menus.

Whether you want to blow some cobwebs away or take in the views of the captivating County Durham countryside, Blackton Grange has direct access to the famous Pennine Way walking and cycling route and is close to some great sites, such as High Force Waterfall, Richmond and Grassholme Observatory. Plus, the estate is directly positioned in a Dark Skies Discovery Site, so, if you’re really lucky, you can see the Northern Lights when conditions allow – one to tick off your bucket list!

THE NORTH EAST’S NEWEST WEDDING VENUE

Are you searching for your perfect wedding venue? Well, stay tuned – because, in spring/summer of 2023, Blackton Grange will open their doors to its private wedding barn, giving you a secluded spot where very few others will have tied the knot before to make your big day extra special.

Blackton Grange is set to be a truly unique wedding venue for saying your ‘I do’s’, with plans to become fully licensed to hold wedding ceremonies in its purposely renovated barn.

At Blackton Grange, your only limit is your imagination – as Jodi and Stella give you full creative freedom to make your dream wedding a reality on their estate. You’re free to choose whatever caterers tickle your fancy and whatever tipples you desire, whether they be served in a quirky bar you can hire or you want to simply bring along your own drinks to keep cool in the fridges provided. But, if you need some inspiration, these lovely ladies are also on hand to recommend some of the best wedding suppliers the North has to offer.

No one likes to go straight home and back to reality the day after a wedding, right? And at Blackton Grange, you don’t have to, either. You’ll have exclusive access to the whole estate, including their eight-bedroom luxury home, the wedding barn and access to the surrounding 11-acres of grounds – making sure that one of the most important days of your life can last for a whole weekend!
