Arthur’s Restaurant & Music Club

Fenwick (Floor 1), 39 Northumberland Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7AS

It’s all happening at Fenwick this year. After marking their 140th anniversary, we don’t blame them for continuing the celebrations to mark this special milestone. Now they’re giving us a chance to step back in time to the 1920s with the launch of their Prohibition-style evenings.

Here you’ll be wined and dined, entertained by smokin’ hot music and immersive experiences, and can even tuck into a spot of afternoon tea. Shake out your tassels, pull out your best Charleston moves and indulge in a clandestine revival of the Roaring Twenties.

HLN TOP TIP: Tickets are on sale now for two evening events with drinks, a three-course dinner with wine, plus entertainment from Michael Lamb’s Strictly Smokin’ Tiny Big Band.

Green Ginger Arcade, 78 Front Street, Tynemouth, North Shields NE30 4BP

A day of sipping on cheeky cocktails at the coast? That’s right up our street. Introducing Tynemouth’s newest cocktail bar, Atelier. Home in the heart of the thriving Green Ginger Arcade, the owners of WC Newcastle are now serving fantastic coffees, innovative cocktails and artisan beers by the seaside.

Only a short walk from Tynemouth Longsands Beach, this will soon be our go-to spot to start or end a day at the beautiful Northumbrian coast. We can’t wait to pop by in the summer – what better way to cool off than with a chilled glass of fizz?

Vanilla and Dreams

Unit 3B Middleton South, Wagonway Drive, Great Park NE13 9BJ

If you have a sweet tooth, this new shop is definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re wanting your dream wedding cake, cupcakes for a tasty treat for your loved one or in need of a sugar fix for yourself, Vanilla and Dreams serves us all the sugary goodness we need.

From indulgent coffees, teas, hot chocolates and milkshakes to soft-serve ice cream delights, cupcakes, cookies and brownies, there’s plenty on the menu for us to choose from. Plus, the luxury cake shop has got you covered as they stock fresh and dried flowers, balloon kits, cards, candles, wax melts, birthday cake candles and toppers to make any occasion that extra bit special.

HLN TOP TIP: Stay tuned, as there will be workshops starting in a couple of months.

The Mood Food

Durham Road, Birtley, DH3 2QH

Casa Rosa Birtley has recently opened its sister company just across the road. But this new exciting eatery is promised to be even bigger, with a totally different feel and vibe. The Mood Food will definitely put us in a good mood with hearty breakfasts, scrumptious street food, delicious desserts and grazing boards on the menu.

The team have renovated the space from top to bottom while keeping some of the stunning original features of high ceilings and exposed bricks and beams this impressive building – giving us a cosy family-friendly feel that we can kick back and relax in.

150 Heaton Park Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 5NR

Heaton restaurant Rebel is out to shake up the dining scene. The former vegan café has been transformed into a fine dining restaurant with a stylish space featuring pastel colours, vibrant paintings and a new seven-course tasting menu that focuses on local and sustainable ingredients.

Expect an intimate dining experience (Rebel only holds around 24 diners), where you can taste the likes of borscht – Rebel’s own take on the traditional Ukrainian beetroot soup – and a rack of lamb with broccoli and preserved lemon. Plus, there are options of a wine pairing and, if you have any room left, an additional cheese plate with homemade oatcakes at the end. There are vegetarian and vegan options, too.
