So now you know what Highfivefitness are all about, let’s hear from owner and fitness coach Clare Dixon, who reveals her secrets on how to get beach body ready for your hols.

Increase your activity outside the gym

Don’t put pressure on yourself to achieve unsustainable goals. It isn’t just about what you do in the gym; it’s also about increasing your activity outside the gym. Whether it be adding in a walk around the block every day, getting your children or friends involved or walking rather than driving to work, these small changes will make a big difference in the long term and will help support your overall fitness goals.

Get into a routine

The Government recommends that we exercise with moderate intensity for 150 minutes a week, which when broken down, is 30 minutes over five days. If we do something regularly, it becomes part of our routine. Try and incorporate a form of activity into your everyday life and it will soon become habit.

Stay hydrated and eat a good balance of foods

It’s so important to keep hydrated when we’re exercising. It helps with our energy levels, regulates our temperature and assists with our recovery during and following exercise. We also need to make sure we are getting that balance of nutrition to support us along the way. That doesn’t mean we need to restrict or avoid foods. In fact, we need to make sure we are getting a good balance of all foods to support our training and general health.

Bring someone along with you

If you struggle to keep motivated, team up with a friend or family member and work out with them. It’s much harder to say ‘no’ to exercise when you know someone else is relying on you to work out.

Plan your week of workouts

Schedule your exercise into your diary as though it’s an appointment and treat it as one. You wouldn’t miss a doctor’s appointment, so don’t miss your diary appointment to work out either.

Do both cardio and strength training

Our body needs variety as much as our minds. It’s easy to get into a routine with fitness and just stick with cardio training like running or just lifting weights. It’s important to include both strength training and cardio training when we are working out. Keep the variety there and make sure you are not only raising that heart rate, but you are working those muscles too.

Most importantly, make sure you have fun

Exercise doesn’t have to be tedious or a chore. Yes, it can be hard at times but make it something that you look forward to. Play your favourite music when you’re working out, exercise with friends or family and do an activity that not only keeps you fit but also makes you smile. If you enjoy it, then you’ll look forward to it.

If you’re now inspired to join the gym and book a fitness class, visit Highfivefitness’ website.
