WHERE TO STAY IN DURHAM… THE OLD RECTORY

Sleeps? 10 guests

Accessibility? Good

If it’s a heavenly staycation spot you’re after this summer, this exceptional former rectory is the answer to your prayers.

Renovated to a luxurious, five-star standard, with its original charm and character flowing throughout, this sensational holiday home boasts five bedrooms (one king-sized bedroom accessible on the ground floor), four bathrooms and extensive gardens which even include a hard tennis court – so you’ll love the stylish, summertime vibes The Old Rectory serves up.

Measuring at over 3,000 square feet, The Old Rectory isn’t short of space. You’ll find three separate living areas to choose from, each benefitting from premium furnishings, luxurious velvet sofas, a flatscreen TV and beautiful finishes. If all that kicking back and relaxing has helped you work up an appetite, then simply make your way to their shaker-style kitchen, which is fully equipped for self-catering stays and has everything you could ever need to cook up a storm. Better yet, the spacious, open-plan dining area provides a real social hub ideal for entertaining, with a large table capable of seating up to 10 guests.

Fancy dining al fresco? Your wish is Host & Stay’s command. Especially here at The Old Rectory, where the beautiful, extensive garden space benefits from outdoor furniture which makes it the perfect spot for a coffee in the morning sunshine, dinner as the sun sets or an evening tipple under the stars.

At The Old Rectory, your party can spread themselves across five bedrooms, with one king-sized bedroom and shower room accessible on the ground floor. The other four are located on the first floor and include two kings, a twin room, one ensuite king and one ensuite double.

Stay near Durham – named ‘One of the Best Cities to Visit in 2020’ – and you’ll enjoy the best mix of everything life in this city has to offer. It retains its medieval heritage while blending seamlessly with a modern, vibrant nightlife; its lush, green landscapes surround busy cobbled streets bustling with city-dwellers perusing the wealth of independent boutiques, bars, pubs and restaurants.

Of course, it would be remiss of us to talk about Durham and not mention its spectacular Cathedral, which is well worth a visit no matter how many times you’ve been before. Constructed between 1133 and 1903, this towering feat of Norman architecture is now the oldest surviving building in the UK with a stone vaulted ceiling at such a large scale and has a wealth of fascinating history to explore within its walls.

Whatever you’re looking from in a staycation – whether you plan to take in the sights and sensations of the varied landscape around you, or you’d prefer just chilling with your loved ones in a luxurious holiday home where every comfort is at your fingertips – when it comes to places to stay in Durham, The Old Rectory proves heaven really is a place on earth.
