Ahead of its opening later this month, we introduce you to Legacy – York’s exciting new luxury dining destination, guaranteed to give you a unique culinary experience to remember.

The countdown is on for York’s newest fine-dining restaurant to open its doors in the heart of one of the UK’s top five-star hotels: The Grand, York.

Inside Legacy, you’ll get a taste of luxury thanks to their memorable culinary experience on offer – with an indulgent eight-course tasting menu that’s been carefully curated with locally sourced ingredients and a wine pairing led by an in-house sommelier.

But what makes this dining destination so unique is Head Chef Ahmed Abdalla, who will personally greet guests and bring the delicious dishes to life by talking through some of the collaborations of flavours on the menu.

And it’s not just the food that brings a sense of elegance and extravagance to proceedings, either. Legacy’s décor has been created by industry-leading interior designers to reflect The Grand’s iconic and historic features with modern twists; featuring blueprint murals, oak panelling and sculptural lighting.

With tables now available to book online ahead of opening night on Thursday 25th August, here’s what to expect at what has the potential to become one of the best restaurants in York…

THE FOOD

Legacy at The Grand York Fine Dining

The restaurant boasts innovative cuisine with locality, sustainability and great northern hospitality at its core. Head Chef, Ahmed Abdalla, has created a menu which is dedicated to local provenance and showcases classic Yorkshire produce with a modern twist. Made using a carefully curated collaboration of flavours and locally sourced ingredients, every detail in the menu is accentuated with a sumptuous wine pairing crafted by an in-house sommelier.

Legacy’s culinary decisions are all environmentally conscious and aim to showcase locally grown and locally sourced ingredients – such as their honey, which is produced by The Grand’s very own bees on the roof of this luxurious hotel. From colourful baby vegetables, tender locally reared lamb and freshly caught langoustine, Ahmed Abdalla has created ingenious bursts of flavour at every turn, ensuring that each dish is a taste sensation.

Abdalla is set to bring a fresh, creative flair that stems from over 12 years of experience in fining dining and contemporary cooking establishments, including York restaurant Skosh, Yorebridge House in The Dales, and stages at Restaurant Hywel Jones in Lucknam Park and Whatley Manor’s restaurant, The Dining Room.

‘I’m incredibly excited about crafting a truly unique, fine dining experience at Legacy by immersing different elements of the journey for guests,’ says Ahmed. ‘This must be a destination offering more than just great food – of course, this will be paramount, but I want to really elevate the guest experience from start to finish.

‘I am inspired by the processes of the pioneers of York’s past; those individuals who turned their imagination into reality, which can now be seen in iconic buildings, revolutionary railways and the heritage of this great city. I am delighted by the opportunity to look at things through a new lens, delivering traditional ingredients in an exciting new style whilst fully utilising the great produce Yorkshire has to offer.’

‘I look forward to enhancing The Grand’s renowned traditional offering by utilising a modern approach to British cuisine.’
