Temperatures are getting colder, nights are getting darker, and our winter coats are now out in full force, which means only one thing – it’s officially hot chocolate season.

There’s nothing more satisfying than warming up on a cold winter’s day with an indulgent hot chocolate in your hand, right?

But as we are blessed with so many coffee shops it can be hard to find the best hot chocolate in Newcastle. So, we’ve done the hard work and rounded up some of our favourite spots that serve hot cocoas that really are next level.

From traditional hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and marshmallows to more adventurous options such as Lotus Biscoff, Chocolate Orange and Kinder Bueno, why not give these warming winter bevs a try?

THE DISPENSARY, NEWCASTLE

Wanting a hot chocolate like you’ve never had before? The Dispensary is the place to go. If you’ve visited this café before you’ll know it is more than just enjoying just their delicious hot beverages, it’s about the experience.

So why not order the Candy Floss Hot Chocolate Experiment? With indulgent hot chocolate topped with a huge piece of candy floss pour over hot milk and just watch the fluffy sweet treat melt away – it’s so satisfying!

SURF CAFÉ, TYNEMOUTH

After a refreshing coastal walk, this Tynemouth café worth a visit to warm up with a hot beverage. You can only expect the most indulgent flavours here for your sweet treat. From Biscoff to Crunchie and Kinder Bueno to Mint Aero, there are plenty of flavours for you to enjoy.

You’re really spoilt for choice here as The Surf Café has recently introduced a new range of special hot chocolates full of festive favourite flavours. We’re talking Gingerbread, Toffee Nut and Pumpkin Spice, with every visit, expect new flavours on the menu to explore.

DIL & THE BEAR AT THE STATION, WHITLEY BAY

After a coastal winter’s day walk, warm yourself up with this indulgent Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate. Think creamy thick milk chocolate topped with freshly whipped cream and complete with a piece of chocolate orange and sprinkled with orange biscuit pieces.

Cosy up with this festive drink and why not check out the delicious food menu that brings flavours from around the globe while you’re there, too? From exotic breakfasts to sharing platters and a selection of sweet treats, this pretty café really knows how to treat us right.

PROVEN GOODS CO, HOULTS YARD

If you’re after a classic hot chocolate that is to die for, you have to visit Proven Goods Co. We have three words for you – toasted marshmallow fluff. This is the mouth-watering ingredient that really makes this hot chocolate. Expect creamy hot chocolate with chocolate shavings and we guarantee that you’ll want to savour every sip as you taste the melt-in-your-mouth marshmallow.

It would be rude not to tuck in one of Proven Goods’ creations from their ever-changing menu – this month’s seasonal doughnut flavours are sticky toffee pudding, caramel and Biscoff.

LOVE LILY, SUNDERLAND

After a refreshing seaside stroll along Roker beach, why not cosy up inside Love Lily by ordering one of their speciality hot chocolates? Known as one of Sunderland’s most Instagramable cafes it’s no surprise that their warming chocolate drinks look almost too good to eat.

If you’re after a luxury hot chocolate, then look no further. If you’re a chocolate lover, then you’re going to be in heaven here, Hot Chocolate Heaven to be exact. Nothing can get better than sipping on an indulgent hot chocolate while taking in the gorgeous riverside views.

When ordering Riverview Kitchen’s speciality hot chocolate that’s topped with freshly whipped creams and marshmallows, you’ll also be treated to four little pots of sweet treats including salted caramel brownie pieces and Oreo square pieces.
