February 2024: 8 new bar, restaurant and wellness openings in Newcastle, Sunderland and Northumberland
Super cool new food and drink openings, with some wellness vibes thrown in, because it’s all about balance.
Cove Lifestyle Studios
Studio 2, 24 Front Street, Tynemouth, NE30 4DX
‘Happy movement inspired by the sea.’
The latest addition to Tynemouth Front Street, Cove Lifestyle Studios is the first hybrid studio inspired by the sea and the beauty of nature. From the team behind SUP4, COVE is redefining wellness with unique weekly sessions both indoor and outdoor – we’re looking forward to the hygge candle making workshop and hot choccie. They also have a cute shop and a friendly running club.
Little Dumpling House
6 Brentwood Avenue, West Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE2 3LP
The much-loved dumpling house on Ridley Place in Newcastle has opened a new venue on Brentwood Avenue in Jesmond. YAS. Serving up authentic Chinese street food and dumplings – expect salads, steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, bao buns and Chinese burgers.
Wild Fire Restaurant and Bar
Hanover Place, Sunderland, SR4 6BY
Wild Fire now has a permanent home and we couldn’t be happier for them. After three years at The Ship Isis, Wild Fire has spread its wings and officially opened its doors on Valentine’s Day. The menu is insane and they also have a great wine and cocktail offering. Booking is recommended because this one is super popular, but walk-ins are possible (if you’re lucky).
Sonnet Restaurant
41 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, NE66 1PR
A new fine dining experience has arrived in Alnwick. The concept is a 14-course tasting menu served throughout the evening to just 14 guests. Drinks are served at 6.30pm and dinner starts at 7pm, with the full experience lasting around three hours. Open Wednesday to Saturday, booking is necessary. They also have a great lunchtime menu served 12noon – 2.00pm which is £35 per person and dogs are welcome. We’re really looking forward to checking this one out.
El Guapo
86 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 6SG
Home of the world’s largest margarita menu…
Located in the former Pepo bar on Pilgrim Street, El Guapo opens its doors on Friday 23rd February, bringing the first dedicated tequila and margarita bar to Newcastle. We’re talking a huge drinks menu, tacos and DJs bringing all of the vibes.
Seaglass Café
211 High Street West, Sunniside, Sunderland, SR1 1UA
This place sells chocolate scones. Do we need to say any more?
Everything at Seaglass café is homemade (we’ve already heard that the full English breakfast is cooked to perfection). One to check out when you’re next in Sunderland. Plus, it has a great allergen friendly menu.
Little Lobo III
1-5 Countess Avenue, Whitley Bay, NE26 3PN
Our beloved bar and taqueria has grown from Sandyford to Tynemouth and now Whitley Bay with Little Lobo III. A blend of Californian and Mexican-inspired foods, expect delicious quesadillas, burritos, tacos and snacks. Our tip? Leave room for the loaded churros.
Priory Press
9 Percy Park Road, Tynemouth, NE30 4LZ
A great addition to Tynemouth, this new juice bar is now open and had a sell-out first weekend. Fresh and health-focussed, their serves include juices to promote skin glow, immunity, energy (yes please) and antioxidants.
