Celebrate LGBT+ diversity at The Sands park for Durham’s annual Pride weekend. The morning will start with a march from Durham Cathedral through the city, with plenty of colour, noise and music. This will be followed by Speeches for Pride, where Durham leaders take the stage and explain what they will do to help raise awareness and improve responses for LGBT+ people across the county. You can also look forward to plenty of fun entertainment, headliner acts from Aston Merrygold (JLS) and George Shelley (Union J), food, bars, a petting farm, market stalls and a fun fair for the whole family to enjoy.
BANK HOLIDAY BBQ EXTRAVAGANZA

Soak up some chilled summer vibes this May bank holiday with a BBQ feast at Ophelia, Gosforth. Nick Grieves, chef and owner of the bistro, is joining forces with Ian Waller, head chef at Michelin-starred Restaurant Pine. Together, they’ll whip up a sensational summer storm that features:
- Braised lamb neck (mushroom as the veggie option), caramelised tomato with koji and pumpkin seed, juniper yoghurt, jalapeño and rose hot sauce finished with fermented garlic honey and served with a fennel, pickled onion and caper salad.
- Oysters and fermented red pepper juice, squid with cucumber nam jim and raspberries and tomato and melon in dashi.
Opt for a classic summer cocktail or glass of wine from Fond Wine, then sit back beneath the inflatable palm trees and enjoy the chilled beats as the guest DJ does their thing. Entry includes a welcome drink.
VIVALDI’S FOUR SEASONS

Royal Northern Sinfonia returns for its last performance of the season with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. REDCAR KITE FESTIVAL

Redcar Kite Festival is an exciting new festival where kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will take to the air for two days of exhilarating aerial displays over Majuba beach. Experts from Northern Kite Group will take to the skies providing spectacular displays, choreographed flying routines and soaring stunt shows. Head over to the beginner’s beach corner to perfect your kite flying skills or join Infinite Arts as you create your very own kite to take to the sky. Redcar Kite Festival will also see the launch of a new artisan food and beverage market as part of the event programme. The High-Flying Market will feature a range of local and regional traders, as well as live music, performances, and street theatre.
WILD WALK

Explore the beautiful wetlands with this hour-long guided walk around the reserve. Follow one of the team members as you try to spot the various inhabitants of the wetlands, asking any questions as you go. It’s a great opportunity to snap some photos, practise your ID skills and learn some new tips about wildlife spotting…
