Looking for a refreshing coastal near South Shields? Try the pier-to-pier trail along the stunning coastline, perfect for all skill levels. You’ll pass historic spots like the Disappearing Gun Turret and Souter Lighthouse.

Plus, there are plenty of pubs and cafes along the way. From pints at Marsden Grotto and Grannie Annies in Seaburn to some street food at STACK Seaburn? Don’t worry about the trip back either; just hop on the nearest Metro at Stadium of Light.

Starting point: Rising Sun Country Park

Discover this scenic circular trail in North Tyneside. It’s an easy route through Rising Sun Country Park, full of woodlands, ponds and wildlife. Plus, it’s usually quiet, so you’ll have the place to yourself.

Your four-legged friends are welcome too but they’ll need to be on a lead near the nature reserve. After your walk, stop by The Wheatsheaf for a pint in their cosy beer garden featuring quirky wooden huts, then hop on the Metro home.

Explore this popular circular trail that looks different in each season. Expect to bump into fellow walkers – it’s quite a hotspot. Here you’ll find off-leash areas for your furry pals.

Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, a historic windmill and a stunning waterfall. Afterwards, treat yourself to a visit to the hidden gem, One Kitchen & Social, for a well-deserved chilled bev or try out The Bluebell – their beer garden is one of our all-time favourites.

Ending point: Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum

Explore this moderately challenging point-to-point trail with amazing views and insights into Roman Britain. Swing by The Cycle Hub as a pit stop for delicious local beverages and fuel your walk with tasty goods or sit outside Tyne Bar in the sun for a couple of pints to rest your legs – both with iconic views of the Quayside.

It’s an easy-going route suitable for all, offering a scenic adventure along the River Tyne. After, head to Wallsend Metro station for a convenient and relaxing ride home after a day of exploration.

Length: 3.6 miles

Starting point: Hebburn Riverside Park

Experience this easy circular trail near Hebburn with stunning riverside views. It’s usually quiet, so you’ll have the paths to yourself. The trail winds through Hebburn’s pretty Riverside Park and is perfect for dog walks.

Oh, and you have to stop at The Cricketers pub halfway for a refreshing pint in their suntrap beer garden. Dogs can be off-lead most of the way but leash up when passing through farmland.

Embark on this easy-going route along this point-to-point trail in Newcastle, winding through historical sites like Exhibition Park and Leazes Park.

Learn about our city’s rich history from Ilford Road station to Newcastle Cathedral along the way. Stop halfway for a pint at Trent House and why not cap it off with a visit to the newest cocktail bar, Hula? You’ve earned it! Head back to Central Station to get the Metro home.
