Stargazing, Scandi-inspired luxury, dog-friendly facilities and a Michelin-star restaurant on site – Hygge at Vallum Farm are the luxurious log cabins in Northumberland we’re obsessed with.
Most will be familiar with the Danish word hygge (pronounced hue-gah) – meaning to create an atmosphere of warmth, well-being and cosiness when you feel at peace and able to enjoy simple pleasures and be in the moment.

And this is exactly the experience Hygge at Vallum sets out to create for its guests, creating a place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and unwind in nature in luxurious surroundings.
Situated in the beautiful countryside of Northumberland on Hadrian’s Wall, the location of these huts on Vallum Farm really set them apart – with a Michelin-starred restaurant on site, the new Northumberland HQ coffee shop, stargazing opportunities on the doorstep and the magnificent Hadrian’s Wall to explore – there’s something for everyone.
More on that later…

THE CABINS
There are four modern and contemporary cabins on site, nestled between cherry trees with views of rolling fields.
They’re fully equipped with a full kitchen, luxury en-suite bathroom, spacious living area, bedroom and outdoor areas – making these self-catered cabins perfect for longer stays as well as overnight breaks.
With a simplistic Scandinavian décor, the cabins have been designed for a calm, minimal, clean approach that combines functionality with the peace and beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Each cabin has an outdoor seating area, and firepits can be supplied so you can toast marshmallows beneath the Northumberland Dark Skies. Feeling like a bit of extra indulgence? Book one of the two log cabins that have an outdoor hot tub – heaven.
All are dog-friendly, with a lovely lakeside walk to enjoy with your pooch.
THE LOCATION
Hygge at Vallum is situated in the woodland on the grounds of Vallum Farm – meaning there are a range of great businesses right on the doorstep:

Restaurant Pine – This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a tasting menu inspired by the flavours of Northumberland. Booking is essential, but if the dates align, we highly recommend eating here.
Northumberland HQ – Expect a welcoming, relaxed café vibe with a touch of Scandinavian style. Embracing the outdoors, Northumberland HQ is the perfect spot to unwind and grab a delicious lunch.
Robin Hood Inn – This pub is just a 5-minute walk from the cabins – perfect for an early evening pint and some hearty British pub grub.
Other high-end dining options nearby include Northumberland’s other Michelin-starred restaurant, Restaurant Hjem (a 13-minute drive) or Matfen Hall (just a 6-minute drive). Matfen Hall also has a great spa and offers delicious afternoon tea – the perfect way to spend an afternoon in Northumberland.
The towns of Corbridge and Hexham are both 10-15 minute drives away – both with plenty of pubs and restaurants for more relaxed drinking and dining – and the centre of Newcastle is only 30 minutes away.
So, despite feeling like you’re in the middle of the countryside, it’s the perfect base to explore everything the North East has to offer (or, hide away and switch off – it’s up to you).
EXPLORING HADRIAN’S WALL
The Hadrian’s Wall Path is a walking trail that follows the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall from coast to coast. At around 84-miles, the trail would take a week to complete, but you can use this interactive map to plan your own route, or explore some of the shorter circular routes that the whole family can enjoy.
