Just 45 minutes from Newcastle, Derwent Manor Boutique Hotel is fast becoming our new bolthole when we need a luxury getaway…

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Derwent Valley, the hotel is undergoing continuous renovations thanks to new owners, with new dining options, upgraded rooms and suites, and a high-end spa coming later this year.

Surrounded by 20 acres of Northumberland countryside, it’s the perfect place to escape and unwind.

Plus, four-legged friends can expect a warm welcome (treats guaranteed), making it ideal for dog owners who want to get away without compromising on indulgence.

HLN TOP TIP: If you quote HLN, you’ll get a complimentary breakfast with your booking (offer valid until 1st October).

Let’s explore…

STAY

High Life North

Premier and Superior Rooms

All of the Premier and Superior rooms at Derwent Manor Boutique Hotel have views across the rolling countryside and can be configured as doubles or twins. Expect luxury linen, complimentary toiletries, a Tassimo coffee machine, and a 42-inch flat-screen TV to relax at the end of a long day.

Suites

Our favourites – the suites. Some even have a private balcony, so you can enjoy your morning coffee with fresh air and scenic views. The bathrooms has a TV, a roll-top bath, a walk-in shower, fluffy robes, slippers, and a living area – so gorgeous you might not want to leave.

Here are our favourites:

High Life North

The Loft Deluxe Junior Suite – accessed via your own private lift; The Loft is a romantic bolthole located right at the top of the hotel, with unparalleled views across the valley.

The Nest Junior Suite – almost surrounded by windows, imagine waking up to the morning sunlight with panoramic countryside views without having to get out of bed.

The Den – another escape at the highest part of the hotel, The Den is a converted loft room which provides accommodation for the whole family (including the dog). A dream for kids, there are bunk beds and a ladder-accessed den to watch TV or play on the Xbox. And for adults? A copper bath, super king bed and fluffy robes.

Self-catering cottages – The self-catering cottages at Derwent Manor Boutique Hotel are fully equipped with a kitchen, living and dining area and bedrooms with en-suites. Rowan Cottage also has a private garden and hot tub – heaven.

DINING

One thing that’s guaranteed at Derwent Manor Hotel is a good time. There are two dining options to choose from:

High Life North

Prego Restaurant: A modern-feeling restaurant in a countryside location, Prego offers traditional British fare alongside flame-grilled meat, pastas and wood-fired pizzas. It also offers Sunday lunch (great for a day trip) and guests will enjoy a Northumbrian breakfast here each morning.

Antler Bar, Lounge, and Terrace: The more relaxed of the two dining options, The Antler Bar offers country pub vibes. You can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat in front of the fire, or on warmer days, eat out on the terrace. The menu has some great pub grub options, including loaded nachos and a giant-filled Yorkshire pudding (yes, please). Afternoon Tea is served every day in The Antler Bar between 12 noon and 4.00pm (booking necessary).

Live music is on the last Friday of every month, and busker’s nights, murder mystery nights, tribute comedy, and music acts are featured throughout the year. Check out the website for details.
