Stage call: Do you know a young person with dreams of being an actor?
Newcastle Theatre Royal’s role is to establish the foundations and rigors of actor training whilst challenging and supporting their students, providing opportunities to progress into further training or into a professional rehearsal room.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to becoming an actor, so Newcastle Theatre Royal develop their students as artists, collaborators and makers.
They encourage taking ownership of individual, creative development as an actor, helping students to carve their own process by exposing them to diverse approaches to creating character and work.
The fruits of Newcastle Theatre Royal’s labour are already paying off as two of their Project A graduates are performing in exciting projects. Jamie Doncaster is currently starring in Standing at the Sky’s Edge in the West End, and Ryan Nolan is starring in The Bounds, a co-production between Live Theatre and The Royal Court.
Project A
Project A is a full-time actor training company for 18–25-year-olds, delivered at Newcastle Theatre Royal by their faculty of industry-leading professionals.
There are three distinct blocks of study, with one and two providing the skills and development tools crucial to working as an actor, with regular opportunities to share work and perform to audiences, Block three is the Create season which allows students the opportunity to perform together, to larger audiences, to work with a creative team and to work as a collaborator with support of an Associate Artist and Director, whilst exploring their own artistry.
The programme has produced BAFTA winners, and even roles in Hollywood… could you be next?
