THE PERFECT SETTING

Nestled in the heart of the North Pennines, High Force is famous not only for its towering waterfall – one of England’s largest – but also for its incredibly dark skies. This combination of a stunning landscape and a clear view of the cosmos makes it THE perfect place for a romantic evening under the stars – date night goals, right?

To make your night extra special, the already breathtaking waterfall will be illuminated just for these events. The sight of water cascading down the rock shining against the dark night sky, is sure to be a memory that’ll stay in your head rent-free.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your stargazing supper begins with a delightful dining experience in the Garden Room of the High Force Hotel. Think cosy seating, soft lighting and the aroma of freshly prepared food filling the air.

The three-course meal is a celebration of British cuisine, crafted using the finest local ingredients. From a warming seasonal soup served with crusty bread and salted Durham butter to a classic British beef pie accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and seasonal greens, every dish is designed to tantalise your taste buds. And let’s not forget dessert – sticky toffee pudding drizzled in butterscotch sauce and topped with vanilla ice cream – our mouths are watering already.

While you enjoy your meal, your anticipation for the night ahead will build with a fascinating presentation from a stargazing expert. They’ll share intriguing stories and fun facts about the stars, planets and constellations you’ll soon be seeing.

THE GRAND FINALE: STARGAZING BY THE WATERFALL

Once you’re well-fed and inspired, it’s time to venture out into the night. As you approach the waterfall, you’ll see it glowing majestically in the darkness. The combination of the illuminated water and the starry sky above creates an almost otherworldly scene.

High Force Waterfall’s remote location ensures some of the darkest skies in the UK, free from the light pollution that plagues more urban areas. This means you’ll have a crystal-clear view of the cosmos, from constellations and planets to, if you’re lucky, the occasional shooting star. And for those special Moonlit Stargazing nights, the moon itself becomes a central character, casting a romantic glow over the entire landscape.

GUIDED BY THE STARS

There’s no need to worry if you’re new to stargazing – High Force’s expert guide will be there to lead you through the night. With their help, you’ll learn to identify constellations, spot planets and maybe even make a wish on a shooting star.
