Afternoon tea at Middleton Lodge: A taste of Yorkshire

Nestled near Richmond, North Yorkshire, the award-winning Middleton Lodge has become a much-loved escape.

Lovingly restored by owner James Allison, the estate boasts two restaurants, luxurious accommodations, event spaces, and the rejuvenating Forest Spa.

And it’s in the Coach House restaurant, where the estate’s signature Yorkshire garden-inspired afternoon tea awaits.

Afternoon tea at Middleton Lodge Estate

The afternoon tea experience at Middleton Lodge is a celebration of the estate’s commitment to sustainable dining. Following their “estate-to-plate” ethos, every ingredient is locally sourced, with much of the produce grown in their own kitchen garden and greenhouses. From delicate sandwiches to hand-crafted desserts, the menu brings the flavours of Yorkshire to life.

Enjoy unique sandwich combinations such as chalk stream trout with crème fraiche and greenhouse lemon or cucumber with Yorkshire mascarpone. Indulge in classic fruit scones with clotted cream and homemade jam, or try the savoury, scruffy cheese scones topped with truffle Yorkshire mascarpone. Desserts, like the Estate blackcurrant tart and Chocolate & verbena brownie, showcase seasonal ingredients and creative craftsmanship.

To accompany this feast, guests can enjoy a range of homemade estate teas, such as cherry blossom and fresh mint, or choose from a selection of Tregothnan English teas. Each carefully crafted element is a nod to the estate’s rich surroundings.

Available Monday to Saturday from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, this afternoon tea costs £37.50 per person. Advance booking is essential.
