From classical romance to African rhythms: 2 unmissable dance shows at Newcastle Theatre Royal

Kicking off the season is QDance Company from Nigeria, led by renowned choreographer Qudus Onikeku. They’re bringing their groundbreaking production Re:INCARNATION to the UK for the first time.

Re:INCARNATION is a stunning mix of dance, music, colour and visuals, celebrating the richness of Nigerian culture and offering an experience that will awaken all your senses. Qudus Onikeku created this piece in 2021, drawing inspiration from ancient Yoruba philosophy and the unstoppable energy of Nigeria’s youth culture.

The production features ten young dancers, each bringing their personal stories to the stage, moving with a raw energy that is both joyful and powerful. The dancers, dressed in stunning colours, body paint and masks, will keep you glued to your seat with their dynamic movements and infectious spirit.

Adding to the performance, two live musicians—playing drums and electric guitar—enhance the show’s energy, while the dancers themselves join in with trance-like vocals. Expect to hear an incredible soundtrack blending Afrobeats, hip-hop, jazz and juju music.
