Hold onto your flat caps because Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is coming to the Sunderland Empire, and it’s set to be a showstopper.
From Tuesday 29th October to Saturday 2nd November 2024, the Shelby family is taking over the stage, and you won’t want to miss this electrifying performance – by order of the Peaky Blinders.
A FRESH TWIST ON A BELOVED STORY
If you’re a fan of the TV show, get ready for a new twist on your favourite story. This stage adaptation is not your typical theatre show, created by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and brought to life by Rambert’s Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer. We’re talking about a full-blown dance extravaganza that dives deep into the heart of Birmingham’s gritty underworld, all through the art of movement.
GET READY FOR A SHELBY-INSPIRED SPECTACLE
The show kicks off in 1916, right in the middle of The Somme. We’re not starting with the usual Shelby shenanigans, instead, we’re thrown into the trenches, setting the stage for a gripping tale of post-war Birmingham. As Tommy Shelby continues to build his empire, he’s also got Grace Burgess in his midst.
But here’s the twist- Grace isn’t just a glamorous addition to the Shelby clan. She’s an undercover agent for Special Branch and her mission is to get up close and personal with Tommy and his gang. Cue the drama, deception and plenty of high-stakes action.
WORDS THAT DANCE
And who’s delivering the dialogue? None other than Birmingham’s own Benjamin Zephaniah, who played the enigmatic Jeremiah Jesus in the TV series. His words will pulse with the same raw intensity that made the show a hit, but this time, they’re brought to life through dance.

A SOUNDTRACK TO SWOON OVER
Now, let’s talk about the soundtrack because what’s Peaky Blinders without some killer tunes? This production features a live band led by Musical Director Yaron Engler, playing a specially commissioned score by Roman Gian Arthur.
Expect to hear iconic Peaky tracks from legends like Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Radiohead, Anna Calvi and more. It’s the perfect backdrop to the mesmerising dance performances, setting the mood and keeping the energy high.
So, grab your tickets and make your way to the Sunderland Empire for a week of unforgettable performances. Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is bringing the gritty, glamorous world of the Shelbys right to Sunderland, with a fresh, exciting twist.
