Get ready to paint the town and all that jazz. The dazzling, sultry and downright irresistible Chicago is making its way to Newcastle Theatre Royal.
From Monday 28th October to Saturday 2nd November 2024, this musical is serving up more than just jazz hands – it’s bringing the whole razzle-dazzle.
The iconic, Tony Award-winning musical is set to light up the stage with an all-star cast, killer choreography and a gripping story that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat – and tapping your feet, too.
Expect a mix of curiosity, ambition and pure 1920s glamour. So, if you love the roaring twenties era, here’s your chance to travel back in time in style.
AN ALL-STAR CAST
Two fan favourites are returning to the Newcastle Theatre Royal stage. Having wowed audiences in Strictly Ballroom, Faye Brookes (Coronation Street and Dancing on Ice star) is back in the killer role of Roxie Hart, the infamous nightclub dancer turned media darling. By her side is the incredible Brenda Edwards (Loose Women presenter), in her role as the intimidating prison matron, Mama Morton.
And the star-studded cast doesn’t stop there. Leading West End talent Djalenga Scott is back in the role of Roxie’s rival, Velma Kelly. Plus, Strictly Come Dancing’s Kevin Clifton is making his grand return to the Newcastle Theatre Royal, this time as the smooth-talking lawyer, Billy Flynn.
With an ensemble of talented performers like Joshua Lloyd (Amos Hart), Jordan Lee Davies (Mary Sunshine) and a fantastic supporting cast, you know you’re in for an entertaining evening.
THE NARRATIVE
Set in the roaring 1920s, Chicago tells the scandalous story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who’s got a bit of a murder problem. When her lover threatens to leave, she takes matters into her own hands (literally) and winds up in prison.
Cue the glitz and glamour of media manipulation, courtroom drama and more headline-worthy antics than you’d find in today’s tabloids. With the help of the city’s slickest lawyer, Roxie sets her sights on fame and fortune – but she’s got to outwit the equally ambitious Velma Kelly.
Packed with show-stopping numbers like Cell Block Tango, Razzle Dazzle and the ever-iconic All That Jazz, Chicago’s award-winning music by John Kander and Fred Ebb will have you singing along long even after the curtain falls.
Since 1996, Chicago has dazzled over 34 million people across 38 countries, and it’s now ready makes its return to Newcastle.
