Balancing work and family life can be tough, but Newcastle High School for Girls is here to help.

With a range of flexible support services, from chaperoned bus routes to after-school clubs and holiday care, Newcastle High School for Girls makes daily routines easier for parents. So it’s no wonder the school has been named a finalist in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.

This recognition highlights Newcastle High School for Girls’ exceptional educational journey, where girls grow from their first steps in the nursery to confident young women in Sixth Form. This dream-making to trailblazing ethos truly sets Newcastle High School for Girls apart.

Here’s everything you need to know about how Newcastle High School for Girls supports families beyond the classroom.

CHAPERONED BUS ROUTES – A STRESS-FREE COMMUTE

The school’s chaperoned minibus routes are a game-changer. Designed to take the hassle out of the school run, these buses safely transport your daughter to and from school, with friendly, familiar chaperones to ensure every journey is comfortable and secure. And what’s even better is that the bus services are open for pupils from the age of three because the buses are chaperoned.

Whether you need to arrange transport from around the region or a drop-off at Senior School to meet siblings, Newcastle High School for Girls has thought of everything to accommodate your needs.

There are ten NHSG bus routes across the region, stretching to the south starting (and ending) in Durham and East Herrington/Sunderland, west along the Tyne Valley from Shotley Bridge and Hexham, north from Morpeth, Ponteland and Bedlington, and East from Earsden and Whitely Bay. There are plenty of drop-off and pick-up stops along the way, meaning that as well as knowing that your daughter is safely on her way to school, you can also get to work or whatever you have planned for the day, without being caught up in the school run traffic.

Alongside this, the school’s shuttle bus service, between its Junior School in Sandyford and Senior School in Jesmond, offers another layer of support. Choose the most convenient school location for your drop-off, and let the school do the rest!

AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS AND WRAP-AROUND CARE

The timings of a school day can often add another time pressure on working and busy families, but at NHSG, they have that covered too. If you are not taking up the option of the school’s bus services, you do also have access to the school’s excellent wrap around support.

You can drop your daughter at Junior School from 8 am (for no additional charge).  The school’s fabulous range of co-curricular clubs can keep the girls busy until later in the day. When your daughter isn’t at a club or you need a later pick-up time, the after-school club offers a safe, supervised environment until 6:00pm, ensuring your daughter is well-cared for and enjoys some activities after a busy day,  and there’s even the option of a light tea before heading home.

All in all, these are just some of the ways NHSG works to support families with busy schedules.

SEAHORSE CLUB – SCHOOL HOLIDAY CARE

Newcastle High School for Girls’ care doesn’t stop when the term ends. The NHSG Seahorse Club runs throughout the school holidays offering flexible childcare options from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Overseen by the school’s own staff, your daughter can enjoy a fun, secure environment while you’re at work, with the peace of mind that she’s being looked after by familiar faces. The Club is located at NHSG’s Junior School which has the benefit of five acres of grounds meaning that there are plenty of exciting activities on offer both indoors and outdoors. Seahorse Club is designed to meet the needs of every family.

SENIOR SCHOOL – SUPPORTING INDEPENDENCE

As your daughter moves into Senior School, Newcastle High School for Girls continues to offer structured support, while also fostering her growing independence. With an early drop-off option from 7:30am and a breakfast service, girls can start the day energised and ready to learn. After school, the Learning Resources Centre is open until 6:00pm, allowing pupils to study or take part in co-curricular activities in a supervised setting.
