A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

THE MAGIC FLUTE

Friday 8th – Saturday 9th November 2024 & Thursday 6th – Friday 7th March 2025

The Magic Flute is a wonderful introduction to opera, filled with fantasy, romance and adventure. Mozart’s beloved score takes you on a magical journey with Prince Tamino as he sets out to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the mysterious Queen of the Night, from the Priest of the Sun, Sarastro. Directed by James Brining, this production is perfect for both opera first-timers and long-time fans, offering breathtaking music and plenty of surprises along the way.

Spring 2025 will see The Magic Flute return for two more performances, offering another opportunity for you to experience Mozart’s enchanting opera.

THE FLYING DUTCHMAN

And last but definitely not least, you’ll also be able to dive into the thrilling world of The Flying Dutchman. This stormy, dramatic tale follows the legend of a cursed sea captain who can only step ashore once every seven years in search of redemption. Senta, a young woman entranced by the Dutchman’s story, may hold the key to his salvation – or doom. With some of Wagner’s most powerful music, this production is bound to leave you spellbound.

The Magic Flute Lite (Thursday 6th March 2025) offers a condensed version of the opera, perfect for little ones or if you want to enjoy all the magic in less time. It’s a great way to introduce children and newcomers to the opera world without missing any drama or musical grandeur.

Opera North is committed to making its performances accessible to everyone. All shows will feature English subtitles, with sign interpretation, audio description and touch tours available on selected dates.
