A LOOK BACK AND FORWARD

Back in the 90s, Royal Quays was the place to be for outlet shopping, but recent years have been tough on retail centres everywhere. Although many people think Royal Quays closed, it’s actually always remained open and early this year went into receivership.

The new owners aren’t just tweaking things – they’re giving the whole place a major facelift and injecting it with new energy. With over 33 units, free parking and an updated design, Newcastle Quays is ready to welcome both loyal shoppers and a new, younger crowd.

A WHOLE NEW LOOK

The first thing you’ll notice is the new, modern vibe. Gone are the tired façades and old signage – in their place is a sleek, monochrome aesthetic. The fresh coats of paint and redesigned storefronts make the whole place feel chic, clean and welcoming.

If you visited the formerly named Royal Quays before, you’ll be pleased to hear that the iconic Lightning Clock designed by artist Andy Plant has been restored to its former full glory. Every hour, you can watch the clock come alive with a mini storm, the thunder roars, the North Wind’s face appears and smoke comes out as the wind blows a tiny weatherman off his feet – it’s adorable.
