Moosenwirt has expanded for 2024 and we’re so here for it. Our favourite Alpine Bar will be back on Grey Street, alongside a new ‘North Pole’ with luxury igloos serving up hot drinks, cocktails and sharing boards. Plus, there’s a new festive family Christmas Village in Old Eldon Square with several pop-up attractions, including a ‘Santa Stories’ tipi, ‘Elf Workshop’, ‘Rocking Reindeer’ and a gorgeous vintage carousel.

The festivities officially arrive in Newcastle this weekend, where, alongside the Christmas lights and Moosenwirt, the Christmas Markets open. Explore the wide range of Christmas Markets across the city of Newcastle, from food and drinks to gifts and trinkets. Open from 10.00am – 8.00pm Monday to Saturday, and 10.00am – 5.00pm on Sundays.

Neapolitan Nativity – Faith Museum

Visit the Faith Museum in Bishop Auckland to see the UK’s only elaborate 18th-century nativity scene staged in a true-life Neapolitan setting.

Measuring 11ft tall and 15ft wide, the astonishing display features hundreds of components painstakingly created by an 18th-century team of craftspeople.

Admire all of the traditional characters from the renowned Bible story and even get a glimpse into the bustle of 18th-century Naples with a street market and tavern.

Bianco Perry’s infamous banner-making workshops are back at the BALTIC!

Think about your favourite item from the festive season – Stuffing? Pigs in blankets? After Eights? – and sew it onto your banner. After the session, you’ll be able to deck your halls with your new decoration.

Lunch and refreshments are included in the ticket price.

Baltic Shop Creates: Rubber Stamp Relief Printing – BALTIC

Join artist Kath Bell to learn the art of printmaking.

In this fun session, you’ll learn how to transfer your own design onto a rubber stamp and carve it out using special tools. You’ll also have the chance to experiment with adding a second colour layer for your design.

Once you have your finished stamp, you can print onto a range of cards, papers and mini zines to take home with you.

The workshop is perfect for complete beginners and those with some experience, and refreshments will be provided throughout.

Christmas Lights Switch On – Darlington Market Square

It wouldn’t feel like Christmas without the annual Christmas light switch-on!

Join in the fun at Darlington’s Market Square, where there will be on-stage entertainment, music and an appearance from Santa.

After the town centre is illuminated in pretty lights, there will be a two-minute firework display to bring the event to a festive close.
