A VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS REIMAGINED

Cragside is no stranger to festive sparkle, but this year, it’s going to be wild – quite literally. Imagine the Armstrongs’ servants have decked the halls and trimmed the trees in preparation for a grand Victorian Christmas. But as night falls, the House has had an enchanted spell cast onto it. The carefully cultivated landscape begins to reclaim its place indoors. Trees sprout from dining tables, ivy cascades down the walls and woodland animals roam in every corner.

It’s mischievous yet magical. From owls pinching treats in the Dining Room to squirrels scampering across beams, the house is alive with festive fun. You’ll find a silver birch tree rising majestically from the dining table with icicle-like drops and perched birds, creating a spellbinding scene straight out of a fairytale.

A JOURNEY THROUGH ENCHANTMENT

As you wander through the illuminated House, the magic continues to unfold. Upstairs, the Gallery is transformed into a woodland path surrounded by 42 Christmas trees sourced from the grounds their snowy branches shimmering with hanging snowflakes. It’s as if you’ve stepped into a hidden forest.

In the Drawing Room, an impressive wooden bridge zigzags over a fabric-crafted river, complete with bulrushes and woodland critters. And don’t miss the enormous marble inglenook fireplace – it’s been turned into a cave with moss-covered boulders with foliage tumbling down.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER

But it’s not all mystery and mischief, Cragside House still has that warm Victorian Christmas charm. A music stand is waiting by the piano for  traditional carols and the twinkling lights of the giant Christmas tree, dressed in over 2,000 sparkling bulbs, provide the perfect festive finale and photo opportunities, of course.

What makes this experience even more magical is that most of the décor comes directly from Cragside’s grounds. The team of gardeners and volunteers have spent months gathering branches, ivy, moss and even drying flowers like hydrangeas to craft the stunning displays. Every detail has been lovingly hand crafted blending the wild beauty of nature with the grandeur of Victorian elegance.
