This new fine dining spot in Durham City Centre has a cool concept. Unpretentious and fun, these guys are offering a restaurant experience with a difference. Every month, the menu is reinvented around a new theme, which could be seasonal, country-focused or even a culinary journey through a movie. There are no stuffy formalities traditionally associated with fine dining – it’s an enjoyable experience with exceptional food that you can visit over and over again.
Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana
27-31 Grey Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 6ES
Not that new, granted, but Rudy’s opened just after our last new openings feature was published in December, and it would be remiss not to mention this banging addition to Newcastle’s foodie scene. Neapolitan pizza is considered the best in the world, and Rudy’s focuses on a Holy Trinity of ingredients to make their pizzas truly Neapolitan. 00 Caputo flour, San Marzano tomatoes from the foot of Mount Vesuvius and the world’s creamiest mozzarella, Fior di Latte. Go hungry and enjoy.
KNOOPS

We’ve finally got a Knoops in Newcastle, and chocolate lovers will be pleased. The concept is based around a carefully curated percentage menu which offers chocolate to suit every taste and mood. In a process called ‘Knoopology’, experiment with different chocolates and flavours – once you’ve decided on your concoction, it’ll be made into either a hot chocolate, milkshake or iced chocolate. Perfection.
Alan The B

A new café, bar, and bottleshop has opened in South Gosforth, serving up brunch and Majorcan-inspired small plates Wednesday – Sunday. This neighbourhood hangout is just up the road from the Brandling Villa and is ideal for laidback catch-ups. Plus, if you’re lucky enough, you might meet the bar’s namesake, Alan the Beagle.
Savour Bakery, Café and Patisserie

This new bakery in Gateshead looks beautiful – seriously, check out their Instagram. Specialising in freshly baked bread, indulgent cakes, pastries and handcrafted chocolates, it’s a haven for anyone who loves baked goods. We’re popping in for a pain au chocolat and a coffee ASAP.

Fuwa Fuwa in Japanese means Fluffy Fluffy, and these pancakes are little clouds of heaven. Made with egg whites whipped into soft peaks and then cooked slowly at a low temperature, they taste like a balance between a souffle and a traditional pancake.
