Coarse
Reform Place, North Road, Durham, DH1 4RZ
The deal: £27.00 for a three-course lunch, snack and drink
Available: Thursday to Saturday from 12noon – 2.30pm
One of the hidden gems in Durham, Coarse is tucked away in a cute courtyard in the city centre. Led by head chef and co-owner Ruari MacKay, Coarse is one of only two restaurants in Durham in the Michelin Guide (the other is Faru). The set menu changes seasonally, and the Michelin Guide particularly praises the chefs for the quality of the sauces (say no more).
Faru
29 Silver Street, Durham, DH1 3RD
The deal: £40.00 for a three-course menu with snacks.
Available: Wednesday to Saturday evenings and Saturday lunchtime
The other restaurant with a spot in the Michelin Guide is Faru, the first restaurant from Jake and Laura Siddle. Faru takes its name from Old English, meaning ‘journey’, and the focus here is on great quality seasonal food. There’s no set dress code, just great flavours in a great atmosphere.

FIIK
12 Elvet Bridge, Durham, DH1 3AA
The deal: £25.00 for a four-course menu (supplement course £10.00)
Available: Tuesday to Thursday
A new addition to Durham’s fine dining scene, FIIK is unpretentious and fun, offering a restaurant experience with a difference. Every month, the menu is reinvented around a new theme, which could be seasonal, country-focused or even a culinary journey through a movie. There are no stuffy formalities traditionally associated with fine dining – it’s an enjoyable experience with exceptional food, and this is a great chance to check it out.
Isla by Coarse
53 North Road, Durham, DH1 4SF
The deals:
£15.00 for two small places and a drink | £20.00 for three small plates and a drink | Free drink with brunch
Available: During opening hours
From the team behind Coarse, Isla by Coarse offers breakfast and brunch each morning, and small plates and sharing platters in the afternoon and evening. Expect good food, good wine and cocktails, friendly staff and a fair price. They have three offers on for Durham Restaurant Week, giving you a chance to try their delicious small plates with a drink. This and yap = perfection.
