Newcastle’s coffee scene has a new star, and trust us, you’re going to want to grab a table.
100 Grey Street, the brand-new café nestled inside the historic Theatre Royal, is serving up artisan coffee, all-day dining, and serious aesthetic goals – think elegant interiors, a relaxed atmosphere, and a front-row seat to the city’s most iconic street.

A café with character
You don’t have to be a theatre buff to appreciate the magic of 100 Grey Street – but it certainly adds to the charm. Set in the grand surroundings of Newcastle’s most famous venue, this café and wine bar blends heritage with contemporary cool. We’re talking soaring ceilings, open-plan Scandi-style decor, and soft, warm lighting that makes you want to settle in for hours.
The space is open yet intimate, with a chic yet unfussy design that feels cosy and welcoming. Whether you’re catching up over a cappuccino, grabbing a post-show wine, or setting up your laptop for a productive morning, 100 Grey Street nails that perfect balance between stylish and laid-back.
The food and drink
Let’s be honest – a café can have all the aesthetics in the world, but if the coffee isn’t up to scratch, we’re not interested. Luckily, 100 Grey Street delivers on all fronts. Their house-blend coffee is from our friends at Baristocracy – smooth, rich, and locally roasted.
Cakes and pastries are from Pink Lane Bakery, so you can expect the best croissants and a daily selection of cakes that change seasonally. They have a fab £5 hot drink and sweet treat deal, which is great value in the city centre, especially for such high-quality treats.
And for those looking for something stronger, 100 Grey Street also serves a curated selection of fine wines, beers, and cocktails – ideal for an afternoon wind-down or a classy pre-theatre tipple. There are also some great zero-alcohol options too, including 0% wine.

A new city centre go-to
What sets 100 Grey Street apart is its versatility throughout the day. It’s a café, a meeting spot, a classy wine bar, and a cosy hideaway all in one. Whether you’re dashing in for a quick espresso or making a night of it with great wine, this place has major main character energy.
So, if you’re looking for a new favourite spot in the city centre, this is it. We’ll see you there – flat white in hand.
