When it comes to planning a wedding, location is everything. If you’re looking for something truly unique, romantic and steeped in history, then look no further than Sheepfolds Stables.

The Wearside venue offers an alternative, heritage-rich and distinctive wedding day location nestled above the River Wear in Sunderland. It’s a place where you can now become a part of its history.

With plenty of North East venues to choose from, Sheepfolds Stables is the newest and most impressive wedding day setting – you might have already heard of Sheepfolds as a popular spot for food, drink, events and live entertainment, but we’re so excited that they’re now a licensed wedding venue too.

Sheepfolds Stables offers the rare romantic opportunity to say “I do” in Grade II listed, former stables buildings with cobbled courtyard areas, original rustic features and breathtaking views across the city. Whether you’re planning a civil ceremony, reception, or evening celebration, Sheepfolds Stables promises to be the perfect backdrop for your big day.

MAKE YOUR OWN HISTORY AT THIS NEW, COMPLETELY UNIQUE WEDDING VENUE

What sets Sheepfolds Stables apart from other wedding venues in the region? Simple – it’s the combination of historic charm and contemporary elegance. The venue’s distinct look, feel and ambience as well as its location only enhances its appeal, offering stunning panoramic views of the River Wear.

Dating back to 1884, the former stables have been meticulously restored, preserving original features like scoria brick cobbles, ceramic water troughs, hayloft winches, wooden beams, stable doors and cast-iron wheel buffers. These historical details are beautifully integrated with modern finishes, creating a stunning space that’s rich in character.

CHOOSE FROM TWO STUNNING EVENT SPACES

Sheepfolds Stables offers exclusive wedding hire in two of its stunning event spaces, each featuring its own distinct charm, allowing you to choose the perfect setting for your special day. Whether you’re looking to host an intimate ceremony or a grand celebration, there’s a space that’s perfect for your vision. The Bridlepath and The Hayloft can host up to 60 guests (or up to 120 guests if combining both rooms).

The Bridlepath

This bright, airy space is ideal for civil ceremonies, receptions and evening celebrations. With floor-to-ceiling windows, The Bridlepath has an intimate yet contemporary feel and offers full length views of the riverside, making it an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding.

The Hayloft

If you’re seeking something with more rustic charm, The Hayloft (pictured above) is the ideal space. With its original wooden beams, cosy atmosphere and warm, inviting vibe, it’s perfect for ceremonies, receptions and evening functions too. The Hayloft is a great option if you want to blend modern elegance with a real touch of history.

PRIVATE BARS AND BESPOKE PACKAGES

One of the standout features we love at Sheepfolds Stables is its range of private bars, ensuring that you and your guests are well-catered for throughout the day. Located between The Hayloft and The Bridlepath is a private bar area where your guests can enjoy a range of drinks. There are also two other bars – The Taproom, with its breathtaking bar area and many original features dating back 140 years ago, and Back of the Pit – both overlooking the venue’s beautiful courtyard, providing even more options for drinks and mingling.

For those who enjoy a cheeky whisky, the venue has an exclusive whisky and cigar lounge which is available for booking. Here, you and your guests can indulge in award-winning single malts, juniper gins and premium cigars in a cosy, refined atmosphere. This whisky lounge, featuring fine Scottish produce and luxury furnishings, is the perfect place to unwind in style.

Plus, Sheepfolds Stables offers bespoke wedding packages that can be tailored to your specific needs. Wave goodbye to boring set menus and restricted timelines, here you can make your dream day your own with the help of the dedicated events team.

YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD VENDORS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Sheepfolds Stables is all about delivering a memorable experience for you and your guests, which is why they offer a range of high-quality catering options. From fine dining to street food and everything in between, the events team works closely with wedding couples to create the very best food and drink menu, tailored to individual requirements and leaving guests impressed.

Entertainment is just as important, and Sheepfolds Stables offers plenty of space for dancing and celebration. Whether you want to hire a DJ, live band or any other entertainment provider, the venue can accommodate your needs and help set the perfect vibe for your wedding.
