A COTTAGE WITH HISTORY AND HEART

Steeped in history, The Mill House was once a working mill for Holy Island, and the oldest part of the building dates back over 300 years. Today, it has been beautifully transformed into a five-star self-catering home that blends historic charm with modern luxury. From exposed stone walls and wooden beams to underfloor heating and stylish interiors, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to create a warm and welcoming space.

The moment you walk into this large but cosy cottage, the views will hit you. With panoramic views stretching from the Lindisfarne Causeway to the stunning Holy Island Castle and even beyond to Bamburgh Castle. Picture yourself sinking into the sofa with a glass of wine in hand, just soaking it all in. Whether you’re watching the tide roll in, immersing yourself in the birdlife of the nature reserve outside or stargazing under Northumberland’s famous dark skies at night, The Mill House has such a magical feel to it.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOR FAMILIES AND LARGE GROUPS

One of the standout features of The Mill House is its four en-suite bedrooms, making it ideal for larger groups of up to eight people. No fighting over bathrooms here – everyone gets their own space. The ground-floor bedroom is also designed with accessibility in mind, with grab rails, a flat sink suitable for wheelchairs and there is a ramp leading down to the property.

Inside, the house is designed for relaxation and connection. The spacious triple-aspect sitting room is perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring, with comfy sofas, a bay window seat and a Smart TV for cosy movie nights. If you fancy a singalong, there’s even a piano in the dining room.

Speaking of dining, the fully equipped kitchen is a dream for foodies. With a three-oven range, an induction hob and plenty of kitchen gadgets, you’ll have everything you need to whip up delicious meals. Enjoy your feasts at the large dining table or take things outside to the covered seating area with space for a BBQ, where you can dine with the sea as your backdrop.

LITTLE TOUCHES THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

What really sets The Mill House apart from other Northumberland cottages is the attention to detail. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel truly welcomed, thanks to a thoughtful selection of local treats to help you settle in – think biscuits, craft beers and a chilled bottle of prosecco waiting for you. It’s these little touches that make your stay extra special.

There’s also newly installed 30GB WiFi throughout, an Alexa Dot for music and a selection of books, games and DVDs for those cosy nights in. For families, cots, high chairs and bathroom aids are available upon request, making it an easy and stress-free choice if you’re travelling with little ones or mobility impaired guests.

A BIRDWATCHER’S PARADISE

If you’re a nature lover, you’ll be in heaven here. The Mill House is located within the heart of Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, perfect for bird watching. Keep an eye out for waders and migratory birds and don’t forget to listen for the calls of the seals resting on the sandbanks at low tide. There’s even a pair of binoculars provided in the house, so you won’t miss a thing.

A PLACE YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE

At The Mill House, time slows down. You’ll wake up to sunrises over the bay, spend your days exploring the stunning Northumberland coastline and get lost in the clearest starry skies in the UK. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat, a family getaway or a special group gathering, this hidden gem on the shoreline opposite Holy Island will steal your heart – just like it has stolen ours.
