MEET THE MAKER: EMINE THOMPSON
Emine Thompson is a jewellery designer, maker and tutor with a passion for craftsmanship and tradition. Originally from Istanbul, she grew up surrounded by the rich jewellery culture of the Grand Bazaar. Now based in Newcastle’s creative Ouseburn Valley, she handmakes timeless pieces through her brand, SILVERKUPE.
With over 25 years of teaching experience she will guide you through the process, ensuring each ring is as meaningful as your love story. For Emine, it’s all about creating treasures and treasured moments.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Don’t worry, no prior jewellery-making experience is needed. All you need to bring is your love and creativity.
The first step is to fill out a contact form and book a complimentary consultation with Emine. Workshops are available most weekdays and weekends, and it’s best to book at least four months before your wedding. But if you’re short on time, don’t stress – Emine will do her best to accommodate you.

YOUR CONSULTATION
During your consultation, either in person or online, Emine will discuss your options and help you choose the perfect date for your workshop. You’ll talk about the type of precious metal you want for your rings, such as sterling silver (easy to work with) or gold (more durable), available in yellow, rose and white, with different levels of purity. If you’re adding personal touches, you can even apply textures to your rings to make them extra special.
The studio will order the necessary precious metal about four weeks before the workshop just incase you change your mind last minute. Emine will also help you choose the size, shape and width of your rings, whether it’s a traditional D-shape, round, flat or oval.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE WEDDING RING WORKSHOP DAY
On the workshop day expect a fun, hands-on experience. You’ll have a private, 1-1 session with Emine, who’ll walk you through each step of the ring-making process with easy-to-follow instructions. The workshop runs from 10:30am to around 3pm and includes a complimentary one-hour lunch break at The Factory Kitchen at The Biscuit Factory.
After the workshop, your rings will undergo hallmarking and add on any engraving, whether you fancy having your wedding date or each other’s initials. This process can take up to a month, and once they’re ready, Emine will let you know so you can pick up your beautiful, handcrafted wedding bands in a beautiful presentation box before the big day.

AND DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT…
“It was a fantastic experience. Emine gave us loads of guidance, support and it was a brilliant day. We would definitely recommend this workshop to other people looking at making their own wedding rings. This experience makes the rings that extra bit special knowing we made them.”
- Joe and Rebecca, April 2023
“This was really meaningful for us to make each other’s wedding rings and she made it simple and fun. Emine is very calm and patient as a result of her years of teaching. We left with a newfound respect for jewellery makers. Looking forward to seeing the final bands and we’ll be back to do another workshop for sure.”
- Mindy, April 2023
“We had a fantastic day with Emine and would highly recommend her ring workshop to any couples getting married. Neither of us had any jewellery-making experience however Emine was patient with us and guided us through the process. We are very pleased with the final product and now also have some lovely memories to look back on of making our rings together”
– Sarah, August 2022
