By Molly Wear

Fluffy Fluffy
99-103 Grainger Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 5AE
The viral Japanese soufflé pancake trend has finally hit Newcastle with both Fluffy Fluffy and Soufflé Baby opening in the city centre in the past year. These thick pancakes are light and (of course) very fluffy, and come in flavours such as blueberry, tiramisu, and crème brûlée. Also on the menu are cheesecakes and croffles, a hybrid of a croissant and a waffle that can be paired with both sweet and savoury toppings.
Tsujiri
66 St Andrew’s Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 5SF
Tsujiri in Chinatown is a dessert house specialising in matcha. Their matcha soft serve can be enjoyed on its own, in a float, or a sundae with a variety of toppings including mochi and boba. Tsujiri also offers other Asian desserts including milk pudding, yuzu cheesecake and a matcha chocolate gateau. Their drinks list includes a range of Japanese teas, as well as bubble teas and frappes in a variety of flavours.

Knoops
150 Grainger Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 5AF
The highly anticipated hot chocolate cafe Knoops finally opened their doors in Newcastle in December, and the little spot on the corner of Grainger Street has been full of chocolate lovers ever since. Knoops makes the experience of ordering a hot chocolate entirely customisable to your preferences. They offer 23 different chocolates, from white, milk, all the way to 100% extra dark. Customers can also choose their preferred milk and anything else they want to add, from a classic marshmallow to a sprinkling of flakey sea salt. Their chocolates are also available to be made into iced chocolates, milkshakes and mochas.
Soufflé Baby
85 Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 4AE
Another spot serving fluffy pancakes in Newcastle, all of the pancakes at Soufflé Baby are gluten and lactose free and can be enjoyed with toppings such as pistachio, Nutella, and Eton mess. The café also serves both fruit and milk bubble teas in a wide range of flavours, as well as ice cream and ‘signature drinks’, like a strawberry matcha latte or orange americano.

Heavenly desserts
Unit 2A Newgate Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 5RE
Boasts an array of signature flavours, such as ruby chocolate & raspberry and banoffee s’mores, which can be enjoyed on waffles or crepes. Turns the dessert into a full dining experience, with sweet ‘starters’ including chocolate shots and cannoli tasting plates, and dessert tapas for those who want to try a little bit of everything. Heavenly desserts also offers an extensive vegan menu, with waffles, brownies and sundaes.
Di Meo’s
1 Riverside Walk, Ouseburn, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE6 1LX

Traditional offerings like pistachio and vanilla are always available, as well as rotating seasonal flavours. An array of vegan sorbets are also available.
