How to achieve the ‘butter skin’ trend

‘Butter skin’ is the beauty trend that has appeared out of nowhere this March, but everyone is talking about it.

Suiting any skin tone, the butter skin trend is all about creating a luminous, velvety skin texture that looks like your makeup has been melted onto your skin, making it almost undetectable.

We’re here for it. Here’s how to achieve it.

SKINCARE

A huge part of this trend is skin prep. We’re aiming to create a super smooth, supple and hydrated skin texture, so when we apply the makeup, it melts onto the skin in a thin layer.

Start with gentle exfoliation to minimise pores and keep dead skin at bay, then highly moisturising products to plump and hydrate.

MAKE-UP

For a butter skin base, we’re looking for low-coverage, light textures that complement the skincare prep.

Cover imperfections and uneven skin tone with a good concealer first, then apply a light layer of foundation with either a damp beauty sponge or fingers for that ‘melting’ result.

Use a creamy bronzer and cream blush sparingly, gently patting the products into the skin so you don’t disrupt the foundation layer.
