From our mums, with love: Team HLN’s most-loved family recipes

There’s nothing quite like your mum’s cooking.

So, in honour of the recipes that raised us, Team HLN asked our mums to share the dishes they’ve always made best. From comforting classics to sweet treats, these are the family favourites we’ll never stop craving – straight from our mums’ kitchens to yours.

Pesto chicken stew with cheesy dumplings

Rosie’s mum: Pesto chicken stew with cheesy dumplings

This is a cracking one that my mum makes for us – pesto chicken stew with cheesy dumplings.

It’s the ultimate comfort food, and now I make it at home. It looks long, but it’s very easy to make and is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

We get our chicken from Nicholsons Butcher, which is just the best, and serve it with buttery mashed potato.

Beth’s mum: River Cottage chicken and mushroom casserole with cider

My mum’s go-to comfort dish has always been the River Cottage chicken and mushroom casserole with cider.

The combination of tender chicken, mushrooms, and the sweetness of cider creates a hearty meal that’s perfect for family dinners.

It’s a staple in our home.

The Hairy Biker’s mince and dumplings recipe

Rachael’s mum: Hairy Biker’s mince and dumplings

My mum loves the Hairy Bikers, and this mince and dumplings recipe is one of those dinners that just feels reliably good.

It’s simple, no fuss and always hits the spot, especially on a cold day. The dumplings are light, and the mince is packed with flavour without needing loads of ingredients.

It’s the kind of meal that doesn’t try too hard but always delivers.

Charlotte’s mum: Baked feta pasta

My mum is obsessed with this baked feta pasta recipe from TikTok.

It’s so easy to make, with a simple combo of cherry tomatoes, a block of feta, and pasta.

She makes it every week, and we love it too.

Rhubarb and stem ginger cake

Laura’s mum: Rhubarb and stem ginger cake

Finishing off with a sweet one. My mum is a fantastic baker, and this rhubarb and stem ginger cake recipe that her friend gave her is literally the easiest thing to make, but it’s so delicious.

We sprinkle plenty of demerara sugar on top to give it a really nice crunch. And, of course, serve it warm with a huge dollop of cream.

Perfection.
