The unmissable Northumberland stargazing events at Ad Gefrin

Ready for an astronomical adventure? Ad Gefrin’s line-up of Northumberland stargazing events lets us explore the wonders of the night sky.

You’ll find Ad Gefrin Museum and Distillery in Wooler, in the heart of Northumberland. The region is one of the best stargazing spots in the UK, being the largest International Dark Sky Park in Britain.

With 572 square miles of Gold Tier dark skies, Northumberland Dark Sky Park is free from light pollution, making it ideal for gazing at the stars, planets and beyond.

Ad Gefrin has partnered with their celestial expert neighbours to offer some exciting new stargazing events, giving us the chance to discover the mysteries of the cosmos. (We’re so excited)

As the weather warms up and the skies clear, now’s the perfect time for an unforgettable night under the stars. From a historical stargazing evening to a magical starbathing walk, don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to experience the stars that inspired our Anglo-Saxon ancestors.

STARGAZING, SPIRIT TASTING AND CRAFT EVENING AT AD GEFRIN

Tuesday 8th April 2025 from 7pm

Price: £50 per adult

Often called The Dark Ages, medieval Europe isn’t normally known for scientific progress. However, Ad Gefrin invites you to challenge that view in a special event celebrating astronomical knowledge.

In collaboration with Kielder Observatory, a team of expert astronomers will visit Ad Gefrin to deliver fascinating talks on the stars. Step into a pop-up planetarium, experiencing the very cosmos that inspired Anglo-Saxon scholars. Plus, a hands-on workshop lets you create your own version of an Anglo-Saxon astronomical instrument using clay.

To top off the evening, an alchemist will guide you through a tasting of Ad Gefrin’s award-winning spirits and liqueurs, including Tácnbora, Thirlings and Flýte – raising a glass to the celestial wonders that once guided Northumberland’s scholars during the Golden Age.
