Loved Adolescence? Here are 9 more gripping TV shows to binge

I have the attention span of a gnat and find it really hard to focus on TV shows.
When Adolescence received so much media coverage about its themes, I wanted to see it for myself. I was gripped, to say the least (I’m talking genuinely edge-of-my-seat).
Not only did I really enjoy it, but actually, being able to switch off in that way helped me to switch off properly and made me more productive.
Anyway, now I’m on the hunt for more gripping TV shows, and these are the ones that have come highly recommended…

Adolescence
Netflix
This British crime drama delves into the complexities of teenage violence and online subcultures. The story follows 13-year-old Jamie Miller, who is accused of murdering a classmate, prompting an exploration of his family’s dynamics and societal influences. The series has been praised for its gripping narrative and powerful performances – there’s also really interesting camerawork, with each episode filmed in one shot. A great series that leaves you with a lot to think about.
Paradise
Disney+
Recommended by a friend for being equally gripping. Set in a seemingly idyllic community, ‘Paradise’ follows Agent Xavier Collins as he investigates the murder of a prominent individual, unravelling dark secrets beneath the surface. This thriller keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with an intricate plot and compelling characters.

The White Lotus
Available on Sky, NOW, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and YouTube
Everyone is talking about Season 3 of this satirical drama – I need to binge from the start. White Lotus offers a glimpse into the lives of guests and staff at a luxury resort, blending dark humour with social commentary. Each season presents a new location and ensemble cast, making it a fresh and consistently engaging watch.
Colin from Accounts
Available on BBC iPlayer
An Australian comedy that has charmed audiences worldwide, Colin from Accounts centres on the unexpected relationship between two single(ish) individuals brought together by a car accident and an injured dog named Colin. Known for its witty writing and heartfelt moments, this is a lighter-hearted option that you can properly switch off to.

Succession
Available on Sky, NOW, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and YouTube
I’ve seen the first two seasons of this and can confirm it’s excellent. Known for its sharp dialogue and complex characters, ‘Succession’ offers a compelling look at the family dynamics, corporate politics and power struggles of a wealthy family controlling a global media empire.
Smoggie Queens
Available on BBC iPlayer
Repping the North East, Smoggie Queens is set in Middlesbrough and follows a close-knit group of LGBTQ+ friends as they navigate life and love. It’s been praised for its authentic representation and heartwarming humour.

Doctor Who (Series 15)
Available on BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Apple TV and Amazon Prime
The iconic sci-fi series returns with its fifteenth season, continuing the adventures of the Doctor and their companions through time and space. This season introduces new storylines and characters, maintaining the show’s legacy of exciting escapades. And if you really want to go deep, there are 15 seasons to go at.
The Night Manager
Available on BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime
Based on John le Carré’s novel, this espionage thriller follows a former British soldier recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of an international arms dealer. The series is lauded for its suspenseful plot and stellar performances from much-loved actors Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston and the brilliant Olivia Colman.

Wolf Hall
Available on BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and YouTube
Step into the scheming, candlelit world of Tudor politics with this gripping historical drama based on Hilary Mantel’s bestselling novels. Following the rise of Thomas Cromwell in the court of Henry VIII, Wolf Hall is beautifully shot and brilliantly acted, with Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis delivering standout performances. It’s ideal if you’re in the mood for something slow-burning and masterfully tense.
Toxic Town
Available on Netflix
One of the most talked-about Netflix dramas of 2025, Toxic Town is based on the real-life environmental scandal in Corby. Created by Jack Thorne (Help, His Dark Materials), the series follows the lives of affected families as they take on the system in a moving, furious fight for justice. Gritty, emotional, and great viewing.
