6 of the North East’s best pop-up markets

The Ouseburn Market – Newcastle upon Tyne
The Ouseburn Valley is home to many independent businesses, including vintage homewares, secondhand clothes, printmakers, and a florist. So where better to hold this market, with its strong focus on locally made arts and goods?
Grab a coffee from local legends, Zees, and browse 80+ stalls selling art, ceramics, prints, clothes, candles, and more. Open Saturday and Sunday on selected weekends throughout the year, you can follow along on their socials to get the latest dates.

Local Heroes – Newcastle upon Tyne, Hebburn, and Sunderland
The Local Heroes movement celebrates the people who make NE communities thrive. And these markets are a celebration, for sure. The schedule includes the best in local food and drink, as well as Rock Choir performances, DJ sets, food demos, art trails, games, and even free bike repairs!
Local Heroes has four pop-up markets across Tyne and Wear:
- Sunniside Gardens, West Sunniside, Sunniside, Sunderland, SR1 1TR – Every fourth Saturday of the month
- Sheepfolds Stables, Easington Street, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, SR5 1BA – Every second Sunday of the month
- Station Road, Hebburn, NE31 1PN – Every second Saturday of the month
- Armstrong Bridge, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7BQ – Every first and third Saturday of the month

Tynemouth Market – Tynemouth
Every Saturday and Sunday, Tynemouth’s Metro station transforms into a buzzing marketplace with 150+ local traders offering pretty much anything you could hope to buy! Vintage pieces, job lot sweets, early edition books, houseplants, sausage rolls, comics, jewellery… you will find it here.
But honestly, it’s worth a visit for the atmosphere and setting alone. On fine days, the sun will beat down through the vast Victorian glazed roof — and you’ll be pleased for the shelter in less favourable weather!

Endless Love Creative – Gateshead
Born in Sheffield, the Endless Love Creative makers market is now on tour across the north of England, landing at the Baltic in Gateshead several times a year.
Previous markets have featured illustrators, cushion makers, ceramicists, knitters, and glass blowers. There’s a small fee of £2 to enter, but this market is a feast for the eyes — and more than deserving its place in the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art!

Barnard Castle Farmers Market – Barnard Castle
This farmers market pops up on the first Saturday of every month and its setting — right on the cobbles by Barnard Castle itself — is almost as good as the produce on offer.
Foodies will rejoice in the range of local delicacies available to try and buy. We’re talking oysters, sparkling wine, Scandinavian-style bread, authentic fudge, and pies that you wouldn’t believe!

Orange Pip – Middlesbrough
Makers, bakers, and cocktail-shakers: this market has a vibrant, festival atmosphere. The concept behind Orange Pip is inspired by renowned outdoor markets like London’s Borough, Broadway, and Maltby Street markets, as well as Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasbord from NYC.
And people love it! Middlesbrough’s indie businesses — and their supporters — come out in droves for Orange Pip market, held one Saturday a month between May and September.
