North East Sundays have been upgraded: The Indian Roast has landed in Jesmond

  • Advertisement Feature

Dabbawal Jesmond has launched a first-of-its-kind concept in the North East by reimagining the traditional Sunday roast through the rich, vibrant lens of Indian home cooking.

Our new favourite weekend ritual, the Dabba Sunday Roast is available every Sunday from 12noon to 4.30pm.

The menu combines the heartiness of a traditional British roast with the rich flavours of Indian home cooking that Dabbawal is known for. Think warming, aromatic spices, slow-roasted meats, and comforting sides – all with an Indian twist.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

North East Sundays have just got a spicy upgrade: The Indian Roast has landed in Jesmond

To start, small plates

Start your experience with one of five tasty small plates. Options include Lentil and Curry Leaf Soup, the refreshing Dabbawal Signature Salad, or try the classic Indian street food dish, Palak Patta Chaat – crispy spinach leaves topped with spiced yoghurt, tamarind and chutneys.

The Beetroot Tikki  – fried beetroot patty stuffed with fig and cheese – looks so good…

The main event

The Dabbawal touch lies in the cooking methods and subtle spicing. Think charred, smoky meats roasted deep inside the charcoal tandoor, golden saffron mash, and a punchy Rogan Josh gravy, perfect for dunking gunpowder roasties. The soul of a roast, with the spirit of India.

Choose from four main course options:

  • Tandoori Chicken Roast – succulent chicken marinated with yoghurt and spices, cooked to perfection in the tandoor
  • Lamb Boti Roast – tender lamb, marinated with hung curd and spices, then grilled
  • Roast Salmon – a flaky fillet marinated in cheese, saffron and dill
  • Vegetarian Bhuna – rich, hearty courgette and cauliflower, with an onion and tomato gravy

The sides – yes, Yorkshires are included…

  • Gunpowder Roast Potatoes – a Dabbawal twist on your classic roasties
  • Saffron Mash – creamy, golden and delicately flavoured
  • Seasonal Vegetables – think charred greens, spiced carrots, and more
  • Yorkshire Pudding – yes, it stays on the plate
  • Rogan Josh Gravy or Makhani Masala Sauce – both bold alternatives to your usual gravy boat

The finisher

There are two dessert options – both British classics. Choose between the rich Sticky Toffee Pudding or our favourite, the Apple Crumble, served with warm cinnamon and vanilla custard.
