Tucked just a few steps from Wallsend Metro, Kaycho in North Tyneside is the kind of hidden gem you’ll wish you’d discovered sooner.

Serving up authentic Indian street food, as soon as you walk into Kaycho, the kitchen’s hum, spice aromas, and warm welcome make you feel right at home before you’ve even looked at the menu.

Inside, it’s moody and intimate – think deep reds, hanging plants, bamboo trees, and vibrant artwork creating a cosy atmosphere with a chilled modern soundtrack to set the vibes.

Their Chef’s Jam experience is a four-course feast designed to take diners on a full flavour journey, making it the perfect intro to street food-style dining or a fun way to try something new…

The Chef’s Jam – £30.99 per person

Apéritifs

Enjoy a punchy street food snack layered with creamy yoghurt, sweet pomegranate seeds and spicy Bombay mix, before a dahi puri – little flavour bombs that burst in your mouth and are so good.

Starters

This generous sharing platter features onion bhaji, juicy chicken tikka, and gilafi seekh kebab – tender, smoky, and served with refreshing mint sauce.

Mains

Three curries to share:

  • A rich, slow-cooked lamb stew presented in a lidded pan
  • Classic, comforting butter chicken
  • Fragrant, coconutty vegetable moilee

Each is served in a mini pan that makes it feel like it’s just come off the hob – home-style Indian food with restaurant polish.

Dessert

To finish, Gulab Jamun – light enough to round things off without tipping you over the edge.

We also sampled two of Kaycho’s new salmon dishes (not part of the Chef’s Jam menu) – one as a zingy starter and one as a rich, flavour-packed main. They’re well worth asking about if you want to mix things up.

Sides

Fragrant pilau rice and Malabari paratha – a layered, buttery flatbread that’s perfect for scooping, dipping, and soaking up every last bit of sauce.

Whether you’re looking for something new in North Tyneside, or fancy a relaxed evening with big flavours and great value, Kaycho is well worth the visit. This one’s firmly on our ‘tell your friends’ list.
