Buckle up, because BattleKart Gateshead is on track to become your next big obsession.

You must have played Mario Kart, before? Well, this is similar. Think dodging obstacles, zipping through racing tracks and pulling off last-second wins.

This isn’t just karting, this is the future of fun. Where go-karts meet augmented reality and every race feels like a real-life video game – complete with power-ups, flashy visuals and plenty of laughs.

Whether you’re feeling nostalgic, a bit competitive or just after a seriously fun night out, this is your green light to go full throttle.

Of course, Team HLN had to give it a spin…

Spoiler alert: we’re booking to go back ASAP.

HLN TOP TIP: Be in a chance of winning a night out at BattleKart Gateshead for four by entering our competition here.

WHY BATTLEKART GATESHEAD IS A MUST

You know that chaotic thrill when you fire off a power-up just before the finish line? Now picture that, but in real life. You’re in an actual kart, drifting through a digital playground, aiming rockets, dodging oil slicks and picking up boosts like a boss. That’s BattleKart Gateshead.

This mind-blowing combination of electric karting, video games and immersive AR transforms you from player to main character. The track becomes your playground, with game modes, bonuses and scenery projected onto the floor in real time.

IT’S NOT JUST A GAME. IT’S A BATTLE.

With six cool game modes, there’s something for every kind of thrill-seeker at BattleKart Gateshead.

Here’s how Team HLN showed up on the battlefield…

BattleRace

The OG. Think Formula 1 meets your favourite racing kart video game. Race to the finish while firing rockets, collecting boosts and laying oil traps. It gets so competitive – just ask Rosie, who took the win with her classic head-of-sales competitive streak and impressive driving skills (whilst aiming for Rachael with those rockets.)

BattleColour

Picture a disco dancefloor… on wheels. Light up the floor with your colour and own the floor. It’s chaotic, colourful and a great way to let off steam – Rachael danced her way across the floor to victory.

BattleSnake

Throwback alert – Remember Snake on your old Nokia brick? Now, imagine you are the snake. Collect fruit, grow your tail and trap your rivals. One wrong move and you have to start again. This one was our team’s fave, even if we all got hilariously tangled in each other’s tails.

Virus

This game flips the script. It’s all teamwork as you try to defeat a mutating virus that grows stronger with every attack. Rachael somehow spent the entire game infected, while Beth was recognised as ‘The Healer’ (the one who healed her team mates the most from the virus) – what an absolute gem.

BattleFoot

Football, but in go-karts. Drive, dribble and shoot your way to glory in this five-a-side karting showdown. NUFC, we are not, but we gave it our all. Rosie’s team took the win (again), but this was such a fun experience that brought out our competitive sides.

BattlePool

The biggest, flashiest pool table you’ve ever seen – played in karts. With team dashboards and 14 balls to pocket, it’s all about precision driving and smart strategy. It’s like Top Gear meets snooker.
